The new Ryzen 9 3900X looks tempting. Been wanting to go team AMD for a while, but have been struggling to justify the upgrade since 5820K is still serving me well. But it's a rather big IPC jump along with double the core count and thread count to what I have now. I hate the fact I'm missing out on Zen goodness, but I'm also having hard time justyfing the system upgrade. I mean, 6 cores, 12 threads at 4.5GHz, 32GB quad channel RAM and 2TB SSD (although SATA) ain't weak even today despite all of it being few years old now.

No plan to upgrade but I might expand if the new APUs hit the market this summer.  I've been wanting to build a HTPC.

Yes. Though it'll be a custom loop and probably upgrading my RX470 to a Vega or Navi.

Im rocking Ryzen first gen 7 1700's until it doesn't do what its supposed to do.

Most likely going to buy 1 GPU this summer to replace 1 of my R9 Fury's, then I will crossfire them because I can in my other rig.  That's probably the only expensive plan I have in place this summer.  Maybe a new gaming monitor for myself since ive been rocking my Hannspree 1600x900 60hz panel for like 10 years.

So, with AMD's announcement and their seemingly excellent increase in IPC, I'm going to be going with a Ryzen 5 combo for an upgrade this summer.

I figure 6c/12t is more than enough for me for the forseeable future, and it'll be an excellent upgrade from my i5, plus get me away from my MSI motherboard.

New build and additions, for those that are curious:

  Reveal hidden contents

R5 3600

X570 motherboard

32GB RAM

256GB NVMe, 1TB SATA

GTX 1080

H500 case

35" 1440p 21:9 monitor

New power bar

Power bar enclosure/foot rest

Roccat Vulcan keyboard

Wireless mouse

Is anyone else planning on upgrading to AMD now that we know what's coming?

whats wrong with your mobo I thought msi had the better Vrms

my trusty 2500k build has finally died on me. the usb ports started to randomly connect & disconnect, and now i think i may have damaged my chipset trying to fix it.

think a new 3600x or 3900x (depending how rich im feeling) would last me a long time.

only questions is the case. I really want to jump to a mini-ITX case, but have had trouble finding a case i like (stylish, white, but still feature complete.)

Biggest thing I'm hurting for right now is storage, though I'd need to buy in (at minimum) 2s because Best practice, backups and all that.

Don't plan on it. I may upgrade my Oneplus 3T before I upgrade my rig but it's holding out strong so probably won't be getting a new phone either :P.

If I do upgrade it would likely just be a 2080ti upgrade and maybe some new case fans. If I hold off another year I'll just rebuild a whole new PC and use my (current) main rig as a server of sorts.

The Snapdragon 821 (with custom ROM) seems to hold up quite well in 2019. Lightroom editing is also surprisingly fast. Faster than my 2010-era i5 laptop actually. ?

Does getting new HDDs for storage counts? :)

As I've built my rig last September, it's doing everything I need it to do so I won't be upgrading soon.

Ryzen 1600x @4GHz

Asus GTX 1070 8GB @1900MHz

16 GB HyperX DDR4 @3000MHz

Asus Prime X370 Pro

Samsung 860 EVO 500GB

Noctua NH-U14S

Seasonic M12II 620W

+ four different mechanical drives.

I switched to AMD last winter yes....

Right up untill the last moment i was very much in doubt
Still after claiming intel to be the best experience in the whole world, i just couldn't back away and never try an amd device
after all one should know both sides of the story
And what better moment then the present.
i have to be honest though
my previous system was build around the precious core i7 920 cpu
so what could go wrong 11 years later.
i guessed even a mobile cpu would feel like an huge improvement

Currently no plans to do any upgrades on my main rigs for this year.  At most, I will probably just get more high TB HDDs and a few more SSDs for what I currently have.

Though, I will probably eye the used market to snag a few spare CPUs here and there from the folks that off load older CPUs.

You can't have my x99 rig if I do a TR3000 build this winter.

I'm good atm for x99s.  I am already up to three motherboards and two CPUs of x99 platform.  Though, I am on the hunt for an E5-1650V3 or E5-1680V3 for some tinkering.  Still kicking around idea for finding a cheap 9590 to throw in the old butt Sabertooth 990FX mobo I still just have lying around as well.

Well if you come across a monoblock for the X99A gaming Pro carbon that doesn't cover the PCH, or a block for the VRMs, let me know.

Haven't seen many monoblocks up in sale used areas of late.  But, I can keep a look out.  In turn, if you see any monoblocks for AsRock x99 ITX/ac, I will be very happy.

I'm looking into it.  Probably upgrading the main rig from X99 to Ryzen this winter.

Not jumping on it straight away, I don't want to take my machine apart again after 4 months because I need to RMA the motherboard due to some chipset bug (had that happen with my first P67 board).

I won't be upgrading the old Sandy Bridge machine yet.

I really don't like those small fans that seem to be on most of the X570 boards so I'm not sure what I'll do yet.  If there is a way to disconnect them (without the BIOS spazzing out and refusing to boot the machine) and use a proper case fan with a 3D-printed duct instead, I'll probably go that route.
