So, with AMD's announcement and their seemingly excellent increase in IPC, I'm going to be going with a Ryzen 5 combo for an upgrade this summer.

I figure 6c/12t is more than enough for me for the forseeable future, and it'll be an excellent upgrade from my i5, plus get me away from my MSI motherboard.

New build and additions, for those that are curious:

Spoiler

R5 3600

X570 motherboard

32GB RAM

256GB NVMe, 1TB SATA

GTX 1080

H500 case

35" 1440p 21:9 monitor

New power bar

A "maybe" option would be a wise one, largely because I dunno how I'm going to budget my cash flow during the summer. If I can put money aside for a 3900X, I most definitely will jump for one.

Check out my guide on how to scan cover art here!

I'm definitely planning on it, though I don't think I'll be buying an X570 board. It seems unreasonably expensive at this point for a feature that I won't be making any use of. I'll probably do it sometime around September.

I'll probably go Ryzen 7 3800X (for the potentially better binning, depending on reviews) along with an ASUS X470 Crosshair VII Hero WiFi and 16GB of 3200MHz or 3466MHz RAM. I'll put my Kaby Lake stuff in my VR PC and call it done. My GTX 1080 is holding up well though, so there's no need to replace it. Cooler-wise, I might try one of those Noctua NH-U12As or an NH-D15.

Main Rig: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X | RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) KLEVV CRAS XR RGB DDR4-3600 | Motherboard: Gigabyte B550I AORUS PRO AX | Storage: 512GB SKHynix PC401, 1TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus, 2x Micron 1100 256GB SATA SSDs | GPU: EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra 10GB | Cooling: ThermalTake Floe 280mm w/ be quiet! Pure Wings 3 | Case: Sliger SM580 (Black) | PSU: Lian Li SP 850W

Server: CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3100 | RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) Crucial DDR4 Pro | Motherboard: ASUS PRIME B550-PLUS AC-HES | Storage: 128GB Samsung PM961, 4TB Seagate IronWolf | GPU: AMD FirePro WX 3100 | Cooling: EK-AIO Elite 360 D-RGB | Case: Corsair 5000D Airflow (White) | PSU: Seasonic Focus GM-850

Miscellaneous: Dell Optiplex 7060 Micro (i5-8500T/16GB/512GB), Lenovo ThinkCentre M715q Tiny (R5 2400GE/16GB/256GB), Dell Optiplex 7040 SFF (i5-6400/8GB/128GB)

Best reason: I'm poor

Actual reason: Laptop is expensive to upgrade, desktop is only used 3 months out of 12 per year so it's hard to justify. Not like it malfunctions.

I am in need of faster PC in a laptop form factor, and as I am hard on everything I own (and 3D modelling reasons) I am aiming for the ASUS FX505DU, as it has a 1660 ti that vastly out performs my 1050, and it has VEGA 10 IGPU (or APU) on the 3750H which is vastly superior to Intel's 630 HD IGPU, so I could use the 1660 ti Max P for rendering while getting other work done on the IGPU, or game on the 1660 ti while having the IGPU render and not heavily impact the performance of my gameplay. On top of all that the FX505 has a rugged chassis that may stand a chance of surviving my hard handling of the device.

Maybe's too broad, and those people just don't need to do the poll. More interested in those who know what they're doing in terms of that.

The 3900x is definitely tempting. I want it...but I know I'd never do anything even remotely close to what it could do. It'd be like owning a Ferrari for the city ?

Yeah, I just don't want to wait for B550...unless it comes out a lot sooner than later. Depends how high of a price we see for the mid tier X boards. The U12A looks like a beast, but that price...makes it a rather tough pill to swallow. I thought about getting one, as I'm not a fan of AIO's, but I'll likely go with something a little cheaper that gets 90% of the performance.

As does mine, but the longer I keep it, the lower the ROI becomes. Better to upgrade sooner than later.

Eh, early Ryzen was a bitch to work with. I hated it. Sold off my stuff almost immediately. They seem to have sorted out most of the issues, so I'll take another crack at it. I play games, but Intel just doesn't seem as appealing, especially with the additional issues they've been having as of late. I think we'll see a lot of people upgrading.

I will be upgrading but not to Ryzen. I would upgrade to Zen2 if I could afford it but it's way out of my budget so I'm going for X58 instead.

i had my ryzen 1600 for a while. performs well in games but i will admit i am looking for more performance in cpu-bound games (AC Odyssey comes to mind), ryzen 3000 is definitely promising. i debated just using my b350 board if i do, however i'm not sure about the vrm longevity so i might probably just get a new motherboard.

The U12A is certainly expensive, but at least it won't wear over time like a CLC and it should still work like day one years down the line. I may just end up with a D15 or DRP4 but I like the smaller form factor since if I ever get the urge, I could move most of my system into a Lian Li PC-TU150.

I'll keep my GPU on an AIO since that's the best way for me to keep temps low. I could try to get a Raijijntek Morpheus but even that won't keep my GPU loaded in the low 40s.

Definitely add a “maybe” category but I plan to build a new PC with my current GPU. Probably a Ryzen 5 system.

I'm not upgrading my current rig, but I am hopefully gonna finish off my Powermac G5 mod this summer.

Aiming for X99 on that.

Very true, that's why I was looking into it too. I just wish it was $20ish cheaper, or came with black fans. I get that it's their color scheme..but for real. Not everyone wants that.

 No way, not this summer.

I need RTX to burn itself out a bit and go the way of 3D glasses etc or fade into the background where it belongs (literally!).

When we get a proper successor to the GTX1080 and GSync prices drop a bit or new cheaper monitors get certified then I can finally afford the jump to 1440p. At the moment it’s far out of my reach as I’m very happy on 144Hz 1080p FreeSync.

I am, but not the way people think.

I'm currently on a 1500X (as people can tell from my sig).  When Zen+ released, I remember Micro Center and Newegg for a really short while selling 1600s at like... $100, maybe a little less, and I remember at one point when both of those places had the 1700 at $100 even, and even $120 at one point.  My plan is to wait for Zen 2 to drop and the price cuts to come to Zen+, and I'm probably upgrading to a 2600 or 2700.  I'll also get a new mobo, cause the one I have now ain't that great at all.  I'm looking at an ASRock B450M Pro4 or ASRock B450M Steel Legend.

Neither of those CPUs will be outdated/obsolete just because Zen 2 is out, and I will probably be able to get one or the either with a board, for the price of a 3600X or 3700X alone.  On top of that, I upgraded to my 1500X maybe not even a month after first gen Ryzen 5 released.  I know the growing pains that comes with a new platform.
While AM4 is mature now, X570 (and eventually B550) chipsets are new, 7nm is all new on desktop CPUs, and PCIe gen 4 is new.  I'm super excited about the tech, and can't wait to play with it.  But I think I'll save money this time. (and growing pains).

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

It doesn't matter what you play games on, just play good games you enjoy.

I’m planning on a 2200G build this summer. I’m gonna try to have as much upgrade-ability as possible. Probably go X470 for mobo (hoping the price comes down in those when B550 and X570 comes out)

I got a ps5 and a pc pretty ballin

I upgraded around Black Friday last year from Intel to AMD. The Ryzen 2700X was on sale at Microcenter for $250! Could not pass it up. I will not see the need to upgrade in the forseeable future.

Sold my i5 6600 and motherboard for a decent price. Could not be happier with the switch.
