They took the existing idea of a smartwatch, and wireless headphones weren't new when Apple decided to make them, product refreshes aren't innovation either even though Apple likes to tell you that. Also  about every other phone manufacturer has a wireless charger, and companies like LG and Samsung are actually innovating with things like flexible displays,OLED,under display fingerprint readers and front cameras with no notch.

Very nice, I own the 15” model too. Going to maybe upgrade soon for undisclosed reasons.

I’ve looked into that a lot, but it’s too expensive for me. I’d really like to try one out, but the docks cost a lot and the DIY stuff is too jigged atm. Seeing as I have the 450 currently

I just went with a Sonnet Breakaway 350 and a Sapphire 580 Nitro+ for $400 USD. Gonna play around with eGPU in bootcamp too.

Yeah they used to only work in boot camp. I’ll look into the sonnet docks again, thanks. You should see better performance though I suppose.

Yes, but you need to basically have them always plugged in to prevent them from becoming an even greater hassle, something you may not want on a phone that doesn't have a headphone jack for instance.

I don't think Apple can override the laws of physics - unfortunately, a single fixed coil will always have this problem if the phone's charging circuit isn't sitting directly on top of it. If there is a less wasteful solution, it's not trivial.

imo apple just lied at the event that their engineers know how to do it and messed up big time lol. it was needed imo. theyre honestly responsible for a lot of bad decisions and the way that the market has shifted.

and what standards are they talking about? 

bendgate? butterfly keyboards? heating devices? weak display cables that dont work fo long? impure "sapphire" camera lens? 

 

they shouldnt falsely advertise or talk about products or services that they arent even going to release now and hold grand events for those. people seriously watched their event about how theyll probably have a game subscription service and news app and bs crap in some time that they wont tell us when and no cost either.

setting a really bad example for the market.

They didn't innovate in any of these categories, they just did what others did, and marketted the absolute hell out of it. Apple has not been innovative for decades.

They did win awards for innovation in product marketing, in fact they had been considered the gold standard in how to market a brand for a very long time.  The proof of that is in the fact that many people think we wouldn't have *enter any device here* had apple not been around, not to mention the copious amounts of people who still believe apple invented the smartphone and smart watch.

 

Most of the comments in this thread come from people who have bought into the marketing.    At one point in time the "it just works" tag line was true, they did make high quality hardware that just worked.   It can't really be said if you're looking at today's products or marketing techniques.

Yeah, that's not what Air power was supposed to be at all. The idea was that you could place the devices literally anywhere and they would charge -- solving one of the definitely annoying aspects of wireless charging (namely, not having the device perfectly aligned with the pad).

Apple didn't invent the smartphone, but it did invent the smartphone as we know it today.  Good grief, people forget sometimes just how bad the smartphone market was in 2007.  Endless BlackBerry-style devices, interfaces that were built around resistive touchscreens and pens (if there was any touch at all), crappy WAP-based browsers, poor media syncing, carriers having a stranglehold on the app portal and even hardware features... you get the idea.

 

The iPhone was a revelation precisely because it was the first major smartphone truly designed for finger touch from the ground up, and aimed at everyday users (who could spend at least $499, anyway) rather than workers and hardcore enthusiasts.  It forced every major rival at the time to either respond or die, and... well, they all ultimately died.

Er, that's not marketing, that's history.  Is there another multi-touch, consumer-focused smartphone from a major brand (or any brand, really) from 2007 that I'm forgetting?  It sure as hell didn't come from Nokia/Palm/BlackBerry or a Windows Mobile vendor.  And it's well-acknowledged by now that Google pivoted Android development after seeing the iPhone.  I don't want to kiss Apple's ass, but there's literally zero doubt that it reshaped smartphones.

You think I'm not aware of that history?  I'm not saying that Apple invented touch (including multi-touch), but it did figure out a way to make a touchscreen smartphone that was genuinely easy to use and aimed at the everyday person rather than businesses.  Innovation doesn't just mean creating completely new technology out of thin air; it means advancing the industry.  And let's face it, the picture of what the smartphone market looked like before and after the iPhone shows how much it changed things.

Yep, you only have to be objective to see that that the design language and feature set of the iPhone is what people wanted. Apple did shape the market and the iPhone was by definition, innovative.
