Why does nobody take the design of a Silverstone RVZ01, make it so that µATX fits (you might need a mm here and there, not much) and do something like that instead??

I mean with a bit R&D you can put a µATX Board inside that case...

Heey guys, update!

The prototypes are more or less complete, just need to send them off to our local anodizer for some final touch-ups. This is also the reason I don't want to show you the prototypes in broad daylight yet, you deserve to see perfection...nothing less ;);) Buut I can show you some RGB action:

Update_27_1-min.jpg

Update_27_5-min.jpg

Update_27_6-min.jpg

The lighting setup uses 5V and is controlled over bluetooth. The LED strips have a density of 144 LEDs/meter and are mounted with 3M tape. You can also choose between 200 lightning-effects in addition to solid colors. I'm very happy with the results as you never directly observe the LED strips, only your epic hardware basking in their light ;);)

On a whole other matter, I've had some problems squeezing in the Kraken M22 & 25mm fan (NF-A12x25 PWM from Noctua), which I think can be contributed to:

  • Kraken M22s large-diameter tubes are hard to bend.
  • Kraken M22 seems to be 154mm long as opposed to the 152mm stated on their website. Can anyone please measure their and report back to me?
  • I'm terrible at cable management.

I did manage to comfortably install the Kraken M22 & 15mm fan (NF-A12x15 from Noctua) though. The Corsair H60 & 25mm fan should be much easier to work with, will order one next week.

Best,
Alex

In the spirit of Odin, UPDATE!

We have been narrowing down our search for the perfect anodizing shop, I'll do my best to send them the prototypes in the upcoming week. Once that's done there is nothing standing in between MJOLNIR and some long-awaited YouTube reviews  For now, here are some more pics of the assembled enclosure (not yet anodized), metal and glass panels as well as the dust filter. I think the manufacturers have done a terrific job!

Featuring our goat-mascot...Ralph!

What do you guys think?

Btw please spread the word about MJOLNIR if you can, however you can. The relaunch is mainly dependent of how many we have in our email list :thumb: I'm quite sure we'll reach the appropriate level in 3-4 months, but it never hurts to accelerate the process a bit more. Dream scenario: enough people have subscribed after the first couple of Youtube reviews and we can launch straight away :)

Best,
Alex

This looks really great. Are there any technical specs officially out there and more pics from all sides? I love SFF builds and this one does seem to be well vented on top.

Who you sending review units to? Two off the top of my head that might be interested would be HardwareCanucks and Jayztwocents. Dmitri (HWC) especially will give you some good B-roll of the case.

Had a look at your website. How close is a 2 slot GPU to the outer glass panel? Is it possible to flip the psu with the fan facing the GPU side? How big the the clearance on the bottom for fan and radiator combinations? I assume slim radiators and fans are needed? Probably also a block/pump combo like the Alphacool Eisbär? How much cpu cooler clearance does the case offer?

At this point the LMG staff are more into doing wacky things with tech rather than in depth reviews of cases (unless they're doing buyers guide/showcases) becasue as Linus himself once stated "Cases are boring now" so there not worth doing stand alone videos about

Jay at least is going to try and shove a water block in there or something, and Dmitri is just a good all around feedback guy who has a very good sense of detail for cases as a whole, not just "Does it have airflow or not". Sadly I'm not familiar with OptimumTech. BitWit and Pauls hardware might be good too (Paul does monthly build videos as well as reviews)

Yes indeed, and I really do appreciate that they constantly try new themes! But dang have I wished for MJOLNIR to be reviewed in a similar fashion to their Dan A4 vid.

Optimum is pretty small right now, but wow...the quality of his reviews are out of this world (IMO on par with HWC or even better). You have some really good points, I'm definitely going to check with all the guys you mention: it would be a lot more fun to see different reviews of the case rather than the same thing over and over again.

As someone who got his first micro form factor recently...and years prior had EATX cases because...More is better right?  This is pretty sexy.

You need a premium edition...I just read the new posts but I remember someone talking about a hammer handle.  The Norseman in me, if he were to buy this case, would get the one available with a handle.

Well you don't NEED, but if you did an optional, albeit likely expensive because low production option for a handle I think some would bite.

Yes, found it. The clearance is a bit tricky. The Eisbär measures 67.5mm in height plus angled fittings. This won't work then. There's an LT version of it measuring 39mm with the ports on the side. That's probably the best option. I know of no other block/pump combos. Unfortunately the 240mm radiator will only fit one fan. The specs unfortunately miss out on the total clearance. The single 120mm radiator is defined with a max thickness of 56mm - or is that the entire clearance including a fan? Would be great to see have a more detailed clearance overview. Maybe with some trickery it would be possible to fit a 240mm radiator with 1x120mm and 1x80mm fan with a bracket.

The PSU needs to be turned if the glass panel is on the CPU side. The GPU specs aren't really clear either - is the max width of 51mm the space between the back of the GPU and the side panel or is there any other restriction? Because like 3 or 4mm of space between the fans and a glass plate is definitely not enough for proper cooling. You will need to either put the perforated panel on that side or flip the gpu like Phanteks did on the Shift series. There's more space and if the vented panel is on that side you at least get some fresh air to cool the PSU.

Hey guys, I think you'll like this one! ?

After a whole month of testing, we’re finally ready to present MJOLNIR thermal results – CHECK THEM OUT HERE.

It’s good to point out that we have tried all possible fan configs (push vs pull), in some cases improving thermals by up to 9°C. Head over to page 14 (in the link above) to check out some recommendations – we tried it all so you don’t have to. I'll post a brief summary of the results below.

Hardware
CPU: INTEL CORE i7 8700
GPU: ASUS RTX2070 TURBO
PSU: CORSAIR SF600
37 mm COOLER: NOCTUA NH-L9i
48 mm COOLER: NOCTUA NH-L9i & NF-A9 PWM
120 mm AIO: CORSAIR H55 & NOCTUA NF-A12x25 PWM
FRONT FAN: NOCTUA NF-A12x25 PWM
BACK FAN: NOCTUA NF-A12x15 PWM

CPU Testing Methods
All tests reached equilibrium long before 30 minutes, but we kept them running for the sake of consistency. First, we test CPU thermals in the standard orientation, for both metal- and glass panels. Next, we check if something improves in the reversed orientation. Last, we test how thermals are affected by swapping around the top panel and dust filter.

CPU Thermals - Standard Orientation
It’s pretty evident from the results below that the 120mm AIO is vastly superior to any of the air-cooling options we tested. The difference really can’t be overstated. Setting the radiator fan to pull instead of push performed between 3°C to 9°C better. Using a 120mm fan below the motherboard (back fan) improved VRM thermals by 22°C. If you plan to go for a high-TDP CPU like the 8:th / 9:th gen Core i7 or Ryzen equivalent – definitely go for the water-cooling option.

update_29_CPU_thermals_standard_orientation-min.thumb.jpg.67f2337c33b5304ba3c4dacb9d5f4143.jpg

CPU Thermals - Reversed Orientation
Reversing the orientation yields an additional improvement of between 1°C to 6°C. Keep in mind that when using the 48mm cooler, the case fan should be configured in PULL for the metal panels and PUSH for the glass panels. Next, we check if thermals are improved further by swapping around the top panel and dust filter.

update_29_CPU_thermals_reversed_orientation-min.thumb.jpg.09e70266804be9f69a32b52806c1c71a.jpg

CPU Thermals - Reversed Orientation & Dust filter top
Having the dust filter on top of the case, in reversed orientation, improves thermals further by about 1°C to 3°C, not much but still significant for those looking to overclock their high-TDP CPUs. If you’re the type of person that likes to push their system to the limit, definitely check out our setup recommendations on page 14 (in the link above).

update_29_CPU_thermals_reversed_orientation_dust_filter_top-min.thumb.jpg.836f2a61c3d83734b7a6f2bbdff28348.jpg

GPU Testing Methods
All tests reached equilibrium long before 30 minutes, but we kept them running for the sake of consistency. Keep in mind that we’re using a blower-style GPU, a cooling solution optimized for thigh spaces. Thermals for open-air GPUs may vary, something to keep in mind.

GPU Thermals

update_29_GPU_thermals-min.jpg.2dfac995ded43dd1de6e2a86a8597db7.jpg

Cable Management

update_29_1-min.thumb.jpg.30147c6d759feff10d562689d76e0487.jpgupdate_29_2-min.thumb.jpg.418e675023d99270568c9591fcaa370b.jpgupdate_29_3-min.thumb.jpg.bd556575214b77a4d2391da015d28432.jpgupdate_29_4-min.thumb.jpg.dc2153ffbc6c19e2a10997a59e7832df.jpg

As you can see it gets pretty crammed in there, especially when maxing out (i.e AIO + 25mm thick fan + 120 mm fan below the motherboard + full-lenght GPU). I think it may be well worth the effort to create custom cables.

Really hyped to hear what you guys think!!

Best,
Alex

The glass panel results are a little dissapointing but to be expected however, and let me say this is a crazy idea, what if you put a pattern of holes in the glass panel to let a little more air through? The rough edges of the holes would also catch the RGB lighting and look pretty crazy. I'm pretty sure that's cost prohibitive though, maybe a 'made to order' option?

Or waterjet a Viking braid pattern through the glass as a GPU air intake vent. Again, made to order option because $$$.

The case needs (bigger) feet for airflow to the AIO on the bottom (I'm sorta assuming most people will go that route). Ideally 1"[25mm], however that doesn't exactly look pleasant. Even if it was 1/2" [12mm] would help significantly. Personally I would recommend Front feet at the front only so that the case is at an angle, as the Hammer is usually shown

Image result for MJOLNIR

(Obviously not at this extreme angle, but you get the idea) I really like the handle idea too

oh boy a case mod like that where it actually stands like that without extra supports or wobbling would be amazing. one could make the engraved part as a sort of mesh for air intake and then add a lot of weights at the rear bottom and the handle. i just imagine coming to a lan party and just dropping that thing on the table (genlty :D

I'm loving that you're going all in on actual CPU testing with a realistic build, workload and fan/panel options! This is definitely great for less experienced SFF users who might not plan that far ahead when it comes to overclocking such a tiny system

Tempered glass is all but impossible to cut holes into, and I'm fairly certain doing it pre tempering process would still be quite difficult and extremely costly. :(

Heey guys, time for an update! ?

Sorry for the lack of updates in the past 2 months, I blame at least 50% on poor / slow PostNord shipping. Anyways, the samples have now been examined and we're very happy with the anodizing quality. However, because we're using different alloys it will be hard to create that "space gray" / DARK anodizing for the prototypes, especially if we want the parts to match with each other. The anno-shop told us that they would do their best, but if there are color match problems the parts will be anodized in black.
