4k vs 1440p @ 27" ?

Hi, i have the option between a new 4k tn monitor over a refurbished 1440p ips panel, and i already know the advantages of ips, but if they were both of the same technology, would you notice a difference at such a small size ?

Yeah 27in is pretty small for 4K. 32in is better suited as the smaller the monitor the harder it is to see things and the less you are to distinguish the higher resolution

Just keeping this here as a I have a 1440p 27" G-SYNC monitor and my aging eyes have trouble with text at times so I reckon I'd be buggered at 4k using the same screen size.

You can change the font size in windows, this should allow your old eyes to see text a little easier.

 

Right click your desktop and choose Display Settings.  Then adjust the Change the size of text, apps, ect... slider until the text is easier to see. A reboot is required.

I know but it's only sometimes I have a problem but it'd be all the time at 4k :)

My 4k TN 28" Samsung monitor was really nice but the colors on my high end IPS monitor are nicer.

 

I agree that 27" does not benefit 4k much. That is the main reason I upgraded to a 32" 4k monitor.

I have 27" 1440p and 31.5" 1440p and I like the 31.5" more. 

Therefore, I would never consider 4k at anything smaller than 32".

So when playing games, do you think that it would look that much better at 4k, considering the rather larger ppi ? or is it too small of a screen size to really notice ?

 

Maybe i should go for 1440p IPS , considering i am coming from a 1280x1024 19.5" TN panel from the stone age. Should look better than that right ?

Depends on you really. What you do and if you'd need scaling for some programs. I love the extra PPI myself. You'd need to see it in personal to actually know what you want. For gaming I'd always go with smaller option, higher pixel density is always nice for games, no need for AA or just some. Details like branches, grass, fences and such will look nice and not aliased.
