After reading this thread just now, sounds about as good as its gonna get... argh.

But! Changing that policy did yield a bump in writes, so thats not a bad thing!
Cheers, and TY for your solution.
    EDIT:
Damn, that policy change and that slight bump in writes went from 3 hours+ for the transfer to 42 minutes. Nicely done JL!
    Ill take the bump 💯

I did ask. Unfortunately the model of an external drive which uses an enclosure doesn't tell us the actual model of the drive itself, which is the spec I'm after. I also don't see a part number reported in that other screenshot.

Maybe give CrystalDiskInfo a try? There is still a chance it gets blocked by the enclosure translation to USB.

Is there any difference between this HDD and an external HDD? (I can picture an external HDD with USB...just never seen another form to be sure I'm talking apples to apples.)

I had one external HDD that had a properties setting for either quick removal or performance.  Right click on that drive -> Properties -> Hardware -> Select that drive from list and click properties -> Policies....see if there's anything similar to quick removal vs. performance.  [quick removal means slow read/write]

i mean.. we dont need GPU acceleration to have some stunning browser based games.

lego used to have a propper 3D racing game with somewhat acceptable suspension physics on their website, and honestly.. the "lego worldbuilder" series of games deserve better than just be burried alive along with flash..

i'm happy projects like Flashpoint exist to keep the classics alive.

    as for modern day examples...
https://shapez.io/ - is a pretty feature-complete demo. factory builder / automation optimization type game.
https://orteil.dashnet.org/cookieclicker/ - i assume this made enough hype waves that you know what it is.. and it's gotten quite expansive trough time.
https://faedine.com/games/crank/b39/ - a bit dated by now, but a game that goes much deeper than you would expect at face value.. saying more would spoil the fun.

Well, half fixed.  I would say to see then if the game has a setting like the other folks mentioned to leave it in windowed mode instead of fullscreen. That might get the last piece of the puzzle.

Here's what mine looks like running on an older Logitech G19 keyboard display just for comparison to what yours is set up as.

You probably wont even notice it from a Sata SSD for pretty much most things. Unless you do a lot of large transfers and such.

OS May be a bit more snappy after a few years on it but even then thats circumstantial at best.

Stay away from the AM4's with the 5600x? As you mentioned, the chances of upgrading the CPU option.... down the road is a must on my end.

Maybe I should have initially said in the first post that I kinda don't want to get locked into a mobo that in two years, theres no CPU upgrade path 😉

Thank you for pointing out the Newegg boards. On that NIC issue you brought up in the beginning, where those driver issues possibly that have been corrected maybe later on?
I'd be a little surprised if any manfucature would sell boards with flaky NIC's for long period of time.

Thank You too Zando, getting narrowed down!

Wow, nice, thank you a bunch! So glad you brought up the vrm heatsinks, that I would have over looked.
Clean BIOS like you said, glad you mentioned that too !

Both of those I would have overlooked in persuit of features. But as you said, slots etc, pretty much the same.
Look forward to your find on the NIC's if you get the chance.

    Thanks again!!

WizTree here. (if you haven't tried it, do, its miles and miles quicker than that other visual file viewer (cant remember the name, its old old).
Not seeing any temp's with anything close to multiple gb's.

I've got a chair from Ikea. It's comfortable, it doesn't have goodies, but its cheap and I sit my butt in it almost every day and I like it a lot. For reference I'm about 5'8" and ~170lbs

I'd ignore reviews that say the chair tilts forward, I think they built the thing wrong bc even with the pin in the lock the tilt function its fine.

actually, your probably best of downloading a linux live usb , using a different pc ofc ,  or placing the drive itself in a different pc running linux (if possible using a decent disk dock, but internal wil do.) ,
note pick a linux distro that has the Paragon Ntfs3 diver build in by default or atleast has it readely available in its packagemanager , (preferably without the ntfs-3g also being on the system to avoid confusion) , this wont be needed in the initial stages but will come in handy later.

avoid also any automounting tools or helpers. make sure you have atleast the same amount of free disk space in a single empty piece.
    pick your poison :
dd (good old dd) : `dd is a utility used to copy raw data from source to sink, where source and sink can be a block device, file, or piped input/output. ` ddrescue6` ddrescue is a tool provided by GNU to retrieve data from failing (block) storage devices like disk drives, CDROMs, or memory sticks, etc. It uses a similar technique as dd and copies block by block, but has an intelligent algorithm to recover failed data. ` dcfldd: is an enhanced version of GNU dd with features useful for forensics and security. pv : (Pipe Viewer) is a command line tool to view verbose information about data streamed/piped through it. The data can be of any source like files, block devices, network streams etc. It shows the amount of data passed through, time running, progress bar, percentage and the estimated completion time some custom scripts prolly using one of the ones above or combinations of them anyway
make a complete image of  the drive , that is the whole device , not just the partition  you want.  when done and it worked without to many hickups great, if it failed halfway trough or more times, dont panic , dd allows you to reastart with an offset so you can continue where you left off, you might need to disconnect the disk from power for a while and let it cool down before resuming, if it keeps failing on the same spot , increase the offset as needed. when you reached the end , unplugg the disk and dont touch it no more , if all went to plann the disk should not have any extra damage , unless the disk was failing due to physical problems (in wich case only a cleanroom/lab and a willing and experienced recovery expert. use the image of the disk to verify the integrety of the data on the partitions , you can mount the partitions run checkdisk , if  problems occur, testdisk is your friend, if everything checks out or nothing to worse turns up, you can use the image , in a Virtual machine , boot that vm with a windows install iso , and try thee test features privided by the e install environment to check for any defects and fix them if any show up : this might help  :

finally try booting the image in the vm, if it goes file , use dd again to write everything to a new drive, and windows wont be any wiser on what happend and continue to run as good ar bad as it does witouth imminent failure 🙂

here are some dd scripts/ wrappres i wrote a while back, that may ease up the process as dd does not come with a verry usable progress bar or stats  :
