The Benjamins got a reaction from thechinchinsong in (UPDATE: Series S 100% Confirmed) Xbox Series X and Series S Prices and Launch Dates Leaked - $500 for X and $300 for S
I thought it was obvious 2 years ago that it was going to be around $500, maybe $600 if MS didn't want to take a lose on the hardware. people keep forgetting that this is effectively a 2021 product that will be in production for 4+ years had has all that time to recoup first years loses. and MS knows that they make most of the money by licensing cost and getting as many people into the ecosystem.
The Series S is a Xbox one X replacement, it is in the market to convince uses to not get the one X used/new but to get the Series S to move as much of the user base off the one gen as fast as possible.
also with the fact MS has the all access finance options for the new upcoming consoles ($25/$35 a month) it allows so many people to get into the new gen.

The Benjamins reacted to Beerzerker in Western Digital - Mislabeling specs on drives
Yes it is.
That just means faster seek times across the disk, does not mean it's a problem just because it's spinning faster.
The only way it would be is for drives to start coming apart while in operation which is not mentioned in any quotes in the opening post.
The above post says what is probrably the only drawback from it and even that is up to the user whether it's a real problem or not based on personal preference.
To me:
It's just someone (Not the OP) trying to make something from nothing and run with it.

The Benjamins reacted to NumLock21 in Western Digital - Mislabeling specs on drives
If I remembered back then their drives are dynamic, where the RPM varies, it goes from 5,400RPM to 7,200RPM, depending on usage.
WD Red Pros are 7,200RPM.
Buys a 5400RPM drive and ends up with a more expensive 7200RPM. False Advertising!!!
The nitpicking is ridiculous.

The Benjamins reacted to TetraSky in The Edge of an Era -- Internet Explorer is OFFICIALLY DYING
Now businesses won't have any excuse to not upgrade their aging (craptastic) softwares that rely entirely on Internet Explorer and somehow doesn't work with other browsers.

The Benjamins got a reaction from bmx6454 in Oculus now requires Facebook login, Aunt Cleo has invited you to play VRFarmville
I dont have a FB account anymore and have no intention on making one.
but now I recommend the HP Reverb gen 2
its a WMR headset with 4 cam for tracking (reviews say its as good as the rift but a slightly smaller tracking area)
uses 2 LCD screens at 2160x2160 per eye with a 90hz refresh
HAS mechanical IPD settings
so basically if you want best tracking, controllers, higher hz go for the index ($1000); but if you want the best visuals go for the HP Reverb ($600)
Note WMR works with steam VR

The Benjamins reacted to GoldenLag in Will AMD win high end gaming now?; Ryzen 9 4950x specs leaked
nodes (generally speaking) doesnt cause any IPC increase or decrease unless there is a major "bottleneck" that is relieved or constrained due to a clockspeed change. like how SMT fills CPU time where it would otherwise be "idle".
yep, that would be a useless part on arrival outside of high refresh titles.

The Benjamins got a reaction from mcbaes72 in Intel's 7nm is broken, company announces delay until 2022, 2023
Your telling me in 2021 AMD is going to be on 5nm and we don't even know if intel can fully leave 14nm?
is intel even going to have a 10nm desktop CPU by the end of the year?
-
The Benjamins reacted to WereCat in Ryzen 4000 Mobile bottleneck concerns rise as PCIe is allegedly limited to 8x
I don't see an issue. x8 PCIe 3.0 is plenty for most graphics cards, there are another dedicated lanes for SATA and M.2, it's not like the x8 lanes are shared between everything.

The Benjamins got a reaction from LAwLz in Thunderbolt 4. TB3 but now +1.
I find this to more be a refinement and TB4 requires a lot of optional features of TB3.
It looks like USB4, TB4 and DP2 all are going to be compatible USB Type C standards at once, it should make things simpler on a product. If A tpye C port has the USB 4 logo its USB only, If its TB4 is the best, and its DP its display only.

So it’s more like Thunderbolt 3.1

The Benjamins reacted to leadeater in Epyc board with only 6 slots by asrock RACK
With all those storage connectors this 100% looks lke it's designed for storage servers, those don't need 8 channel memory. However I'd still advise against first gen EPYC because of that memory locality problem with one of the dies.

The Benjamins reacted to LAwLz in Next Gen consoles may have Ultrawide support
Way too many people just crank the settings up to max in a game. I am sure the PS5 or XBSX will be able to do 1440p at 144Hz in modern games. It's just that it won't be at max settings.
Here are the PC equivalent settings Red Dead Redemption 2 runs at on the Xbox One X.
You can get like 40% higher performance at 10% loss in visual fidelity when you tweak the settings. That's what consoles do really well, and it will keep happening with the new generation of consoles.

The Benjamins reacted to CypherQc in RobotCache Revisited
Let's talk about the new robotcache now backed by amd! as seen in this techlinked!
What do you think about it? What are your hopes and fears?
PS : here's a post from The Benjamins that sums up the basics

The Benjamins reacted to CypherQc in RobotCache Revisited
Sorry, but for me it was very new, they are in beta currently and released their client which is very recent. The whitepaper disapeared from all online sources. And it hasn't been discussed since 2018 on these forums according to my searches.

This will be super cool as long as it isn't in their MacBook Pro lineup for a couple years. I wonder if the ARM chips will have x86 emulation.
