Hey, the one thing I'll always say about Corsair support is that they are fantastic. I specifically do recommend them to people just for that fact. Any Corsair product I've had issues with, they've been happy to help diagnose and then replace if necessary.

That being said, I would still feel bad if they replaced another one... I mean... The warranty is 5 years and I know that it's out of that time because I got two at the same time and just a couple of months ago got the other one replaced. Then again, it's my gain and their loss so I just may well go for it.

Generally speaking its best to go through the Retailer 1st, that way replacements are brand new sealed boxed items.

Places like Amazon are fine dealing with things even outside of the usual retailer returns period.
Using manufacturers warranties via the retailer u bought it from can be a lot easier, as the retailer simply gives u a new item and they then send of the faulty one using their business dealing with the manufacturer, which is usually beyond reproach. The retailer sends the item to the manufacturer as faulty, the manufacturer then just credits the retailer.

I personally wouldn't accept a 'replacement' if its not brand new. of course if I send an item in to be repaired i expect it to be 'repaired' . if they send me a an obvious used replacement the 1st thing ill do, if its a bad replacement, is ask where my original item is and why it wasnt repaired as arranged.
I'd give them 1 chance to sort out the issue again and if they fail, i'd have demanded they abide by the agreement of 'repair' or just return of the original item, which they would likely fail to produce at which point i'd then start legal proceedings.
In effect , in that situations they have stolen the item as they have failed to abide by the agreement of 'repair' and are then refusing the return of the original product.

Last update, ASUS came through and sent me a brand spanking new monitor. For all the shit I had over the past month or so I rly happy now I have a brand new screen. Anyone reading this in the future, if RMA is fucking you around know your rights and demand a new product or refund.  ASUS honored there commitment to me to fix my problems, resulting in them fixing it with a brand new monitor. Thanks for your advice guys.

I also try to avoid the brands I've had poor experiences with - and tend to go towards the brands I have had good experiences with. For that reason, most of my stuff is Corsair and Logitech - Corsair are fantastic and Logitech I've only spoken to once but I had a minor (1-2% brake pedal reading at 0% position on G27) and they gave me a full G29 kit with gearstick. They never asked for the G27 back so I now have two wheels!

The downside to limiting yourself to decent companies is that you are limited in what you can buy. My current PC as an MSI board because Asus were horrible but my next PC can't have an Asus or MSI motherboard and that leaves me with a greatly reduced section of the market as they're two massive players.

I had no luck whatsoever getting in contact with Asus support several years back when I first got my 3930k on an X79 Sabertooth board. Ended up returning for a full refund to Amazon. XFX and MSI, on the other hand... They're both horrific, to the tune of exactly what you're saying in regards to quality of "refurbished" parts. XFX were just not accepting that my GPUs and power supply were at all faulty, though I did manage to persuade them to RMA everything at least once to a somewhat working state. The PSU in particular came up with the same fault at least twice, possibly three times but the latest unit has survived several years now and is past its warranty.

As for MSI, I was getting issues on my 4790K, RAM or motherboard - I couldn't tell which and ended up RMAing all of them over time. Intel didn't question anything, just as soon as I said there's a possible fault, they accepted an RMA and gave me a working part back - I wasn't expecting this, it was just coming up for the end of its warranty and I wanted to let them know of the possible fault before the warranty period was up. Corsair replaced the RAM in a very similar fashion but I at least actually requested that be replaced. When neither of those fixed it, I went to MSI for a new board and managed to get a replacement... Except that it had an HDMI port glued off and seemed to have the same issue as the one I sent away as well. Next time they didn't have an exact swap so offered me an alternative which I begrudgingly accepted. It has four USB ports not working and not the same features I bought the original board for. I couldn't even be bothered to contact them again with the hassle I had so just accepted it and bought a USB hub and PCIe card.

    TL;DR:
MSI and XFX are similarly useless. Couldn't even contact Asus support when I needed to (7 years ago).

Linus did a video on this years ago and the difference was marginal; pretty much within the margin of error.

That was back on PCIe 2.0. So in theory, if you're using PCIe 3.0, you can use a 4x slot and not notice the difference between that and a 16x. But that's in theory and from a couple of years ago - so take it with a grain of salt.

xBlizzDevious got a reaction from TopHatProductions115 in Ahhh Windows - DX12 apps crash on start
    Hello!

Not sure if this should be here or games, but...

I wanted to try out Forza Horizon 3 and Forza Motorsport 7's demos so I downloaded them from the Windows store and launched them. BOTH of them open the window, show the logo for a sec and then vanish.
I thought that was odd, so downloaded a couple of little games to test things - Asphalt 9: Legends and Hill Climb Racing to be precise. Both of these games open and run perfectly.
I looked for another big game with a demo and found Halo Wars 2. This game also crashes shortly after the window opens.

I've deduced from that testing that DX12 games are not working, yet I've had DX12 apps working before - and testing Horizon 3's demo on my other PC shows it works over there. I'm currently updating that PC to see if it works after the update but Windows is taking its time there.

Has anyone else had this issue and/or know a fix? My main PC is fully up-to-date, I installed my GPU driver about 3 days ago so that's pretty damn new and I just ran a DirectX update as well as C++ runtimes.

Ah, that's much more like it and much more what I was expecting. Still, that means that the XP/1080Ti are near double the performance of the 980Ti. Impressive!

I'll still be waiting at least until 1180Ti before considering upgrading but we'll see.

Good to know - I have a 980 Ti to power it so should be good.

Hmm. What makes you say that?

Yeah. The £760 that it normally is is just so much money for something I don't know how much I'll use. £600 is a lot more palatable - though still a significant sum.

Sorry, only just seen your message now. It's OK as I had been doing that anyway.

Been working through each module and each slot and found that two modules produced faults within a few hours, the other two were OK. Tested one of the good modules in all slots and the motherboard is good.

A call to Corsair, it would seem. Gotta love the lifetime warranty!

It often does. Check out scan.co.uk too. I found that they know how to pack computer hardware A LOT better than Amazon do. Other places you could look are the likes of Dabs - I got my 980Ti from them as it was on offer and cheaper than other options at the time.

Little extra note: AMD created the 64 bit architecture so you'll likely see "AMD64" folders in and around the operating system and drivers - even though you run an Intel CPU.

Label each of the drives and cables and make sure you plug them back in in the same order, but you should be just fine. I've not had experience with LSI cards so can't guarantee it, but it worked fine for my Highpoint RocketRAID card.

The 690 is a dual-GPU card, ie. it runs in SLI. I would suggest steering clear of an SLI or Crossfire setup if possible. I switched from 3 x 7970s to a single GTX 980Ti recently and the 980Ti outperforms in most situations. There are a few games that scale well with multi-GPU and they do get better framerates from the triple setup, but I'd rather just have a smooth, simple system these days.

I've certainly noticed that too. I think it does just happen to be that everyone wants to make a few Youtube videos every now and then and see if they can get anywhere with it. I used to - but the last time I uploaded anything was nearly 3 years ago. I just gave up as it wasn't going anywhere, I wasn't any good and I couldn't be bothered.

Perhaps everyone else genuinely is a video editor or graphic designer and I'm the odd one out. But I doubt it.

Quite likely is. Most Corsair products seem to be built pretty damn well.

I personally owned a K95 which had 11 (if I remember correctly - it was certainly several) LEDs fail. When I got it RMAd I swapped it for a K70 with blue switches. I haven't seen any LEDs on this one go yet - it's a newer model and possibly has this said fix implemented. Either way, I'd say that they're such good keyboards in every other way that I'd risk it. Corsair support is fantastic too.
