Diagnosing Issues - What to use?

xBlizzDevious

Hi all,

I've had a few issues with my server lately so I started Prime95 on it last night and woke up to a couple of errors. 24 hours in and 4 of the 8 threads have failed.

I haven't had any BSODs or other strange crashes, but rather odd glitches such as my network capability dropping to a few tens of KB/s and a Factorio game server becoming unplayable when it should be running fine.

Because of the Prime95 results, Im' assuming it's likely to be a RAM issue but I haven't had to diagnose any computers for a couple of years. So my question is:

- What programs do people use to diagnose faulty hardware?
- What steps should I be taking now?

Thanks in advance.

Can you run Memtest and see if that shows anything, since you believe it is a memory error?

Well... Not all of your memory. Now you get to test each individual memory module in each memory slot to determine the health of each memory stick and slot. It is worth the work to know exactly which stick is the culprit or if all of them are or if it is a motherboard problem.

CPU: Ryzen 7 2700x cooled by Pure Rock Slim // RAM: Gskill Flare X 3200mhz CL14 2x16 32GB// GPU: Powercolor Red Devil RX 6650 XT 8GB// Motherboard: ASRock B450m Pro 4 // PSU: Seasonic G550 Gold 80+ // Storage: 4TB pcie nvme game drive, 512 GB m.2 sata3 OS Drive, 4 TB WD Red HDD // Monitor: Samsung S22D300 21.5" 1080p 60Hz, MSI 27" 1080p 144hz Freesync 1ms display // Peripherals:  Logitech fancy shmancy keyboard and moise with rgb and gaminess stuff, very fancy | Kingston HyperX Cloud Core headset

Sorry, only just seen your message now. It's OK as I had been doing that anyway.

Been working through each module and each slot and found that two modules produced faults within a few hours, the other two were OK. Tested one of the good modules in all slots and the motherboard is good.

A call to Corsair, it would seem. Gotta love the lifetime warranty!
