Tomboys vs FemGuys, the double standards on life

I want to share a story and some insight about how messed up society acceptance is at least in my eyes.  I go to a Pentecostal church in Pittsburgh that is accepting of LGBT people which for me is pretty good.  Personally I've had 2 girlfriends and 1 boyfriend in my short time on this great planet.  What is weird that friends and family seem to be extremely supportive when I had my girlfriends just like my boyfriend.  I rarely got rude stares holding hands with the girls I've dated.  But a really good friend of mine is openly gay and he gets constantly bullied and verbally abused in public when he's with his boyfriend.  I mean the 2 are absolutely adorable together, but it seems society is almost okay with 2 girls in a relationship but 2 guys is not acceptable?  Why do we have this double standard?  Just like if I wore a traditionally male style hoodie and sweat pants to class no one would bat an eye.  But if a guy dresses somewhat feminine people stare, make jokes and I feel bad for these guys that have to put up with it when I generally flow freely in life w/o much discrimination.  Trust me, I've had a few wacko's ultra religious by the bible people stop and preach at me how wrong I am, but they preach to everyone on their sins.  I am glad I found a church that allows me to bring in a person whom I love no matter the gender.

 

But OT, what are your thoughts about this?

 

EDIT:  Guys this discussion isn't about if gay marriage is right or wrong, it's about how society accepts 2 girls and tomboys much more willingly than 2 males and/or fem guys.

Uh...I've seen lesbians get called disgusting just as much I have heard gays be called disgusting. Guess it depends on where you live. My personal views are that I could care less who you're with as long as you're happy. Why should I care about a relationship that isn't my own? That's dumb.

 

Funny story, I thought I'd give going to church another chance a few months back and sure enough...on the 3rd visit, I hear anti-gay preaching and that's when I said "Nope, I'm done".

It's pretty simple. When you're in a group of guys, and say a guy acts girly (just go with the stereotype of a "typical" gay guy), what happens? Most of the time, he's treated like shit for being girlyish or just outcasted.

 

If you're in a group of girls and a girl acts guyish (again, just go with the stereotype), they're accepted and don't care.

 

Guy's typically are this "we're all macho and testosterone" concept.

 

Personally, I don't give a shit if you're gay or straight or whatever as long as if I'm working with you that you can do your damn job right and well. Most people who aren't straight are pretty polite about hitting on those who are straight. I don't take offense when I'm hit on.

 

Hell, I'd go gay for James Franco.

I think it's only males(only the homophobic ones, not every male) that look at male-male couples in disgust. The female-female relationships they're okay with because it's a turn on.

For women, it may be vice versa.

These are just my observations.

I've seen an equal amount of hate though so it doesn't really apply.

It's true that this is a tech forum but you did post it in the correct place at least.

 

We live in a world where only the nuclear family is truly accepted. The reason why girls can be together with little flak is simply due to things like the porn industry glamorizing it. It's not surprising in a world dominated by heterosexual males that homosexuality between men is looked down upon. The progression made over the past decade is slowly reducing the impact that these figures can have and with legal gay marriage slowly becoming accepted and new leaders coming in we might see some change in the future.  :blink:

I don't think it's about being gay as much as it is about the human race being an extremely fucked up species. That's just the most visible part of our psyche. We are easily just as hypocrytical when it comes to politics, religion, science, philosophy, culture, land ownership, human rights etc etc etc.
