As far the sex robots go I enjoy the company of machines more than the company of people most of the time so a Mezzo Forte level one that'd I'd never be able to afford would be neat. I think that's the right anime anyways.

Also Jim Keller tends to leave companies a lot to work on whatever he wants to work on it seems.

Having worked for a business machine company for 7 years before my current job, I can say that most inkjet printers are not designed to run dry. They are prefilled with liquid before you install the first cartridge that they drain out on the initial purge to pull in ink from the tanks.

Running the printer dry will cause many printers to stop working as they cannot pull in ink from the replacement cartridge. It can also cause damage to the internals due to ink drying up and leaving deposits (mostly on the printheads).

Printers are more sophisticated than they are given credit for. A lot of the error messages thrown by printers are actually for preventive maintenance, for example. You take the machine in for service because it stops working and throws an error (oftentimes the error messages go off after certain milestones... mostly related to the rated life of the internal part). The printer company programmed those in to prevent greater damage to the machine or to the user. Print heads, purge tanks, drums, fusers, feed mechanisms, waste toner compartments, filters, etc. are generally designed to be serviced at set intervals.

Inkjets designed to fire until dry tend to have disposable print heads with the ink sitting just on top of the head (no separate ink compartment and feeding tubes). Those print heads tend to be lower quality ones with larger nozzles that don't clog as easily. The system is gravity fed so the system can take in ink even after drying out. They also use dye-based inks, as they tend to be easier to handle (often to the detriment of print vibrancy and endurance). Besides if these print heads fail, it'd be a cheap replacement (oftentimes these machines even have the print heads on the disposable cartridge together with the ink).

It is also true that poor consumable compatibility can cause damage to printers. Oftentimes the cartridge design and ink/toner formulation of "compatible" cartridges aren't upto the printer manufacturer's design spec. This causes some parts to wear sooner than the design life, causing problems well before the set maintenance schedules.

The technology in schools topic was very interesting to me. I completely agree that the typical ipad approach is not the correct way to do it. My college "gives" every incoming student a Dell Venue tablet and nobody uses them for productivity besides for Word documents. The digital textbooks just suck. There is just something about actually having a piece of paper in front of you even if you just printed it off of the digital book.

3D printing is super cool, and a lot of schools do it wrong. Just having a makerbot or two in some classroom where some students might get to print a key chain just isn't a good approach. I really like the Tinyboy printer. It costs $180 through Hobbyking but you can build one yourself for $130ish. It is actually a pretty solid little printer and China is filling computer labs with them where each computer or every other computer has one connected. That's the way to do it.

CAD class was easily my best class in high school and I actually learned a ton from it. Everyone in the class loved it, especially in the second year if you chose to continue into 3d design. Plus I use those skills at work every day. But my school did not have a very modern setup for the cad stations. We couldn't even do a counter-bored hole correctly. You had to cheat your way around it so you didn't max out the RAM and crash the program. That's just sad.

Teachers need to pull their heads out of their asses and update their curriculum and teaching techniques. I was required to take another CAD class my freshman year of college and we were stuck using Creo Parametric and doing really basic 3D stuff because the professor for the next class up didn't want to update the power points he had been using for the last 5 years.

I chose to switch to an engineering technology major (electrical) because it is based on hands on experience and learning useful skills in the lab. My partners in my engineering 101 class didn't know how to use a fucking wrench. Not even an adjustable one, just a 1/2in wrench with 1/2in bolts and 1/2in nuts. Our labs are actually designed so that we need to google things to figure them out. Because face it, that's what you are gonna do on the job. It isn't based on brute force memorization, but rather knowing how to find what you need to know and then knowing how to apply that new found knowledge. Yes, most classes have lectures as well, but the lectures focus on the fundamentals and the underlying reason why stuff works the way it does. When we melt something in a circuit the goal switches from finishing the lab to figuring out what went wrong. My boss must have told me there are 40 thousandths in 1mm a hundred times and it never stuck. But when I was sitting at a computer measuring and drawing a part it just suddenly stuck and I can do quick conversions back and forth without a problem.

Sorry if that seemed ranty, but it felt really good to type that.

For computers and student performance, the results are skewed to be negative due to their implementation. For example, most schools in the US that are implementing heavy computer use, will often simply use the equivalent of a digital version of the text book. Many schools are simply not using the computer to enhance the learning process, instead, they are shoehorning older forms of media onto the computer.

One area where I have seen actual improvements in results, especially in the area of reading speeds, and comprehension, is when students were able to use computers in order to find outlets for their skills, as well as develop intrinsic motivation. There are many people who see play/entertainment as not having a place in school, but if you embrace it, then at a younger age, you can build real intrinsic motivation. The motivation will keep the students thinking about the skills they are learning because they will finally have a practical use of emerging skills.

Sure you have the basic motivations of linking the skills they are learning to the real world, and also ensuring some cultural relevance, but if the student is unable to make practical use of the skill outside of school and homework, then they will not internalize those connections.

If you look over the curriculum in your state, you will often see that outside of the word bloat, there is really not much that is covered per year. The issue is that due to how schooling is done, the school year has to incorporate a lot of re-engagement, and test prep, because the skills often thought go in one ear, and then out the other as soon as the exam is done. The main skills that remain, are the ones that they are immediately able to use; it doesn't matter what for (gaming, watching anime, yelling at someone, finishing that argument with your dog or cat, etc.) as long as the are using elements of the skill enough to keep it fresh in their minds.

=-=-=-=-=-=-

Also wanted to add, ipads in schools are one of the worst investments. They are not durable enough, and they cannot be serviced, and thus as kids damage the devices, the school ends up with fewer devices available in the classroom. The devices that do not get damaged, lose their effectiveness after around 2 years or so of heavy use because it becomes risky to use in a lesson, since the battery issues start to become a disruption batteries dying and needing a recharge in the middle of a lesson is not acceptable.

Many schools that tried it, have moved to using laptops which can be serviced, this allows the school to ensure that if you have unit plan that involves extended periods of online research, then you can be sure that the laptops will last the day if needed.

Hey all, Just wanted to chime in on the sec robot thing.

I understand the concerns of many as to whether or not people will continue to focus on good hygiene afterwards, but I honestly do not see that to be an issue since good hygiene is a personal thing, not just a mating ritual. If having a sex robot decreases good hygiene, then there is a serious issue with the people, not the fact that robot's are available for intercourse.

When I get ready in the morning and evening, I do not do it for the sake of others, I do it for myself. I do not like smelling bad, I love feeling clean. Not to be tmi but I personally clean my "self" multiple times a day because it just feels amazing to feel clean.

I also feel that someone purchasing a sex robot is their own business. Everyone is insanely quick to jump to "oh how dare you impose on  their life choice" but suddenly when it comes to sex robot's it is a big deal. It's just a life sized sex toy. Not a person. Comparing it to a human and stating it creates an unjust viewpoint of women and men is as stupid as the entire barbie fiasco. You never, ever hear about groups of men claiming they feel inadequate because of the existence of He-Man action figures. Like seriously, barbie does not even have many defining features other than her fake appearance. While male action figures are THE most detailed and defined portrayal of an insanely unrealistic expectation of mens bodies.

I honestly am shocked even more that people aren't speaking up on how this belittles women and men. Such as "how dare you compare my real live flesh and blood body to some sex toy with a limited AI". I just do not feel it is at the point of being "worthy" of being even borderline offensive to real live relationships.

Also, some people JUST can't get sex. It's sad, but hell, very true. Then there are people who reeeally do need a way to learn without the tension of an actual person being there.

But I also do not think that many people will be able to actually afford these 7 thousand dollar sex toys in order for this to become an actual issue among most people world wide.

How many people do we pass by on a daily basis actually have the means to drop 7k on a sex toy because they're lonely, or because they want to get off to something that resembles yet can never be comparable to the real flesh and blood human body? Unless they're selling by the hundred millions "nationally" not internationally, I don't think this could pose a problem in any topic that has come up.

Hygiene is a personal thing, if a sex toy decreases the rate in which you clean your body, then "you" have the problem. It isn't the sex toys fault that you made that decision. "You" should feel the need to be clean.

Comparing it to women and men is just appalling and degrading. It is not comparable. If "you" feel offended by the existence of some sex toy that only shows how little you think of yourself and your gender.

And finally, it just isn't affordable enough for the common person for this to be a social issue in the least.

If a male or female widow needs this facade in their lives, then why not? Not everyone wants to get remarried. Some people cherish their lost wives and husbands so much that they just could never replace them with another person, so they resort to sex toys and the memories of that person. They do not want to share their bodies or love with another person beyond the person they fell for and want to remain faithful to. Sure this isn't an insanely common thing, but it exists.

It just isn't anyone's business what someone does in the privacy of their home as long as it isn't harming another person mentally or physically. If you feel mental trauma from knowing people have sex toys, then you have a serious issue.

What is wrong, is judging these people, and saying they are degrading women or men because they have a life "like" sex toy that at the end of the day is NOT  a person, or even a LIVING being! It's plastic, rubber, metal, with a recorded voice, and can not feel a thing in any way shape or form.
