Porsche announces the Mission E electric Sedan

Porsche is getting serious about electric cars and their latest concept shows just how serious. It's called the Porsche Mission E and it's the companies first full electric car.

 

Let's break down some numbers:

  • over 600 bhp (440 kW)
  • 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in less than 3.5 seconds (124 mph in less than 12 seconds)
  • top speed above 150 mph (~250 km/h)
  • over 310.7 miles of range (~500 km)

Sound great, but the most amazing part is the charging time. It has a 800-volt “Turbo Charging” system that Porsche claims can charge 80% of the battery in 15 min. Comparison wise, Tesla can charge 50% in 20 min with their Tesla Superchargers. It will also have some sort of holograms for operating the instruments (I've no idea how that works).

In presenting the Mission E at the IAA in Frankfurt, Porsche is introducing the first all-electrically powered four-seat sports car in the brand's history. The concept car combines the unmistakable emotional design of a Porsche with excellent performance and the forward-thinking practicality of the first 800-volt drive system. Key specification data of this fascinating sports car: four doors and four single seats, over 600 hp (440 kW) system power and over 500 km driving range. All-wheel drive and all-wheel steering, zero to 100 km/h acceleration in under 3.5 seconds and a charging time of around 15 minutes to reach an 80 per cent charge of electrical energy. Instruments are intuitively operated by eye-tracking and gesture control, some even via holograms – highly oriented toward the driver by automatically adjusting the displays to the driver's position.

All that sounds great and I'm quite interested in how the finishing product will turn out, but one thing is bothering me. I think this car is ugly. Like really, really ugly (on the outside). The interior looks great, but the outside is the opposite. That nose looks like a sad version of 918. I somewhat like the rear diffuser, but the lights are terrible as well (still looks better than the Panamera). I hope they will change something in the production model.

Yeah but it won't look like that. Cool that more then Tesla can make a nice electric car. But don't expect it to look super future like like the picture as that is a concept car.

Nope nope nope nope nope. Porsche what the hell are you doing, unless it's rear engined and rear wheel driven, has 2 seats maximum and puts the BMW i8 to shame then it's pointless to me. We don't need the equivelant of an electric panamera, one of the ugliest vehicles on the roads right now.

I'm not at all a Porsche guy. But this car looks amazing. Both on the outside (which is what I usually hate about Porsche) and on the inside too (very high tech). Maybe @LinusTech can get this next to his lambo:

the tesla is 2 motors  not 4 for now.

even if they nurf it down the accleration. instant torque will make it more fun then simalar cars .

i think they know what they wan't to charge, and its probably not 35k, not everyone is trying to out budget tesla or GM
