ESL announces details of the anti-doping policy

• Originally announced on CSGO sub reddit
• ESL will work with NADA and WADA to create tests
• For now the tests will only be done at random
• Skin tests will be done and will consider saliva tests
• The punishments range from getting prize money/tournament points deducted, to disqualification and up to a two year ban from ESL events.
• Tests are to counteract what players like Kory “SEMPHIS” Friesen have been saying they are doing, quote "WE WERE ALL ON ADDERALL. … PEOPLE CAN HATE IT OR WHATEVER."

I saw someone on the subreddit /r/globaloffensive say "Isn't this a bit late to say if anyone needs to get a perscription?". I just wanna say, the addy-users have had plenty of time to get a proper perscription, they knew it was coming, but not the exact details. It was to be expected to have adderall banned without perscriptions

This is why I find these competitive games stupid. It is alright just to play with friends and have a good time but kids who just want to go pro and win comps will never make it as having drug help you will always make you better then humanly possible. Look at Lance Armstrong

Great to hear its being taken seriously. There are alot of money involved in Esports and if a team can have an advantage from taking lets say adderall then its not fair at all for anyone involved.  its also a positive thing because it means less people will be inclinded to take it in general. its not good to take adderall all the time its not healthy for you.

Has anyone done actual studies on the matter? We got confessions from anonymous players but is there proof of any benefits? Like in comparison to simple stuff like good night's sleep or eating right?

So they don't understand that drugs have been within Esports for years? At least in the NA scene it wasn't abnormal to see someone using weed to calm themselves for a LAN, and/or, they smoke weed anyway, so it's how they played. Though, always best to make sure that everything is equal, I guess.

It's stated in the article that the drug adderall (commonly used by e-sports players) have nearly the same level of effectiveness as heroin and cocaine 

So the brain is most likely most active at the period after intake and increases the pumping og the heart, so most likely eating right and sleeping are out of the picture

 

It's basically adrenaline pills that were made for increased brain activity

Well I'm curious as to how much of an impact this will have on the gaming industry.

 

Seeing as some of these games have a high level of multitasking involved (starcraft 2 for example), I'd get why something like Ritalin would be useful.

 

I don't know what KeSpA's stand is to this kind of "drug abuse".

Yeah. Since people are taking it in e-sports, it goes to reason that it helps. Guess they wouldn't if it didn't. But the scientific me would still love to know, considering e-sports solely, if it's placebo effect and if the side effects can harm the performance. Like blurred vision countering the enhanced perception or the need to pee countering the extra stamina. It just occurs to me that in sports in general, drugs and doping came long before we had the means and interest to study them but e-sports, being such a young industry, has all the ability to study stuff now, at the very beginning of the profession.

Presumably, if you have a valid prescription from a licensed physician, then you're exempt from the anti-doping rules, as long as you follow the dosage set by your doctor.

@SeriouslyMikey Anyone who can be a pro-level esports gamer, on weed, and win, in something like Starcraft 2 or CS:GO, should be given a medal.

 

No, they shouldn't use it, unless they have a valid prescription from a doctor, but even if they did, something like marijuana specifically, would actually hurt more than help, unless they had a medical condition that required it's use for focus or something.

 

Weed is a downer, it mellows you out, slows your reaction time, and would affect your ability to think quickly and multitask as well. Sure, some players might still be able to do all those things on weed, but that's the exception, not the rule.

 

I have nothing against weed - I even think it should be legal for recreational use (tax that shit, bruh), but in a professional competition, leave it at home, unless mandated by a doctor.

Yeah I know that. That is why they are the "best". You see kids trying non stop but they will never make it unless they take a performance enhancing drug

Good to see. Cheating will always be in any competitive space, especially with prize pools on the line. Although you can never eradicate it fully, you shouldn't let it run rampant.
