Ubisoft delays patch 4 for AC:Unity

Kjai

... wait what?

http://www.polygon.com/2014/12/15/7395995/assassins-creed-unity-patch-4-delayed

In classic Ubisoft fashion, they once again fail to deliver on their patch 4 slated for today which is supposed "to rectify most of the remaining issues our players have been reporting," which has been delayed for a few more days.

Well this is a disappointment, I just bought AC Unity cause it went 50% off on Amazon ONLY because of patch 4 which was supposed to come out. What a bummer.

It's Kay Jai, not Kuh Jai

What, you prefer they release it early and broken like the game???

The point of a deal is to fix stuff, not to make people wait more for no reason. They should have delayed the game instead of releasing a piece of shit.

The ONLY way they could have botched the recovery of this disaster more is if they made the patches come out as DLC first.

"Rigorous quality control is of paramount importance to us" - Ubisoft

The fuck? Then release a decent game and not some unfinished bullshit to be fixed over a month later.

At least they're not releasing the patch broken though, which is good I guess...

Well, no, the ubisoft fashion would be to bring out  the patch when it's not completely ready, or skip out on half of the issues.

Its no use making a joke out of this statement as I possibly can't make it any funnier:

"We are committed to delivering major performance improvements, which requires that we refurbish the Paris map and that will take a few more days to hit the high level of quality our players deserve."

Do you realize they said the same shit for the other patches and they barely fixed anything, some of them broke the game further.

It's been 1 MONTH since the game released and it's still unplayable for a lot of people.

Well it's not like I'm demanding a refund, I know the patch is going to come out, it's just a disappointment because I'm unable to get my instant gratification after spending 30 bucks on the game, (yeah I know I shouldn't be complaining cause I got it for half off, it's just a bummer)

Yeah but they wouldnt delay it to make it worse on purpose.

I bet the other patches they delayed would have been even worse if they didnt delay them.

The problem is that impatient kids like OP are expecting instant fixes, or instant gratification, and Ubishit rushes to release their stuff.

OP expects a fucking proper product which he paid for.

After 3 large patches which all were delayed, the game is still broken, now the cycle keeps on going.

So you're saying you want them to release another POS that will break the game even more, just because you want it on time?

The ENTIRE reason that ACU was a bad game was because it was released prematurely due to pressure from people like YOU who are always complaining about something not being released on time, rather than being patient and waiting for something that actually doesn't suck.

I'm talking about post release patches, not the release of the fucking game.

I didn't pressure them into fucking releasing the game last month, i didn't even pre-order the POS.

Their fucking job now is to fix the game, and after 3 large patches it's still not done and they constantly fail to commit to their deadlines, then they set new deadlines for the next patch and fail yet again.

Their job is to fix the game ASAP, and it's been 1 fucking month now.

You dont understand, that the reason people give deadlines, is to make it happen. Its so funny, how they rushed to get the game out, though being unfinished, but take their sweet ass time to break promises and make patches, which don't even deliver.

Are you kidding? ACU was released when it was because the must have a yearly game in time for the holiday season, COD style.

$$

AC thus far has turned into one of the biggest franchises out there. They are milking it.

Do you understand that patches dont magically appear out of nowhere?

There are people who work there writing code, and if its not finished they should not release it. This is about not repeating what they did with a game.

You should stop rushing and being like "I WANT IT NOW" because then you will just get another crappy patch instead of one that actually works.

Maybe because a lot of this shit isn't hard to fix?

Maybe waiting doesn't make ubisoft patches better?

Maybe because they are busy making the next game already?

I did study game dev for years before I switched paths. I know. It's a rush job. It could have been ironed out a lot quicker by a smaller team even.

We run out of sympathy when they do this to make a yearly game for the max profit

With Unity less than two weeks away, I thought now would be a great time to pay tribute to Patrice Désilets, the man who made this franchise happen.

In the mid 2000s, when Desiléts was tasked with creating a reboot of Prince of Persia he ended up making something entirely different. This game came to be known as "Assassin's Creed". Désilets was enamored with his creation and laid out his vision for the franchise rather quickly.

The first and second games in the series followed this vision entirely, but what followed was a big departue. Since the beginning Désilets had intended the series to be a trilogy. Assassin's Creed II would be followed directly by Assassin's Creed III. This final game in the series' current arc would focus almost entirely on Desmond as a full blown Assassin, something many fans had been calling for.

However, the higher-ups at Ubisoft had something different in mind. They made the decision to make the series an annualized franchise. Désilets wasn't having it, and left the company out of spite in 2010. He then started working at THQ, where he would be making a new project. It would have become a spiritual successor to Assassin's Creed, titled "1666".

Unfortunately, THQ went under and Patrice, his team and game were picked up by Ubisoft. After just a couple of months, they fired him and kept his project, presumably either throwing it away or absorbing it into AC. Tl;dr: Ubisoft's biggest "crime" has nothing to do with resolutions. Patrice Désilets is the real MVP, and deserves much more respect."

From /u/UsedUserName1 [1] in /r/assassinscreed[2] .

EDIT:Some more info on him being fired By /u/PartyPoison98 [3] :

On May 07, 2013, Désilets again left Ubisoft. When asked why, Désilets replied, "Contrary to any statements made earlier today, this morning I was terminated by Ubisoft. I was notified of this termination in person, handed a termination notice and was unceremoniously escorted out of the building by two guards without being able to say goodbye to my team or collect my personal belongings. This was not my decision. Ubisoft's actions are baseless and without merit. I intend to fight Ubisoft vigorously for my rights, for my team and for my game."

Perhaps they shouldn't release a broken game to begin with.

To quote nintendo: "If a game requires post release patching, then it wasn't finished when it was released"

Granted, they have had to patch games in the past, however that seems to be the exception more often than the rule with them. Unlike everyone else who just considers the first year of play to be the beta test, or BF4 which is all beta test always and forever

I generally hold back my criticism if online features of a game are buggy because its expected, but if it's a whole slew of game breaking bugs with the game itself at launch, there are no legitimate excuses. At the end of the day, the fault lies somewhere inbetween the project leads and their bosses. The Project leads do not want to upset the bosses by asking for more time or by looking incompetent for not meeting deadlines, and they also don't want to cave in to the "lazy developers" that might milk the project unless they are pushed as hard as possible (how can you trust whether someone actually needs more time vs. someone just wanting to milk their job?). On top of that bonuses are often given for projects that meet or exceed deadlines, and because the bosses would rather keep that money in the coffers, they create crazy tight deadlines that are near impossible to meet. Sometimes, the game also has to get a metacritic rating above a certain score for the deadline bonuses to still be given out, as a safety measure so that projects aren't released on time but broken.

Ubisoft is turning into a crap factory, and we get to buy their excrement products.

I'm a big fan of the Assassin's Creed series.  Sadly, with all the issues surrounding Unity I have decided to wait until the game has been fixed, or at the very least playable.  As long as this patch does indeed fix the remaining issues with the game, I don't have a problem with them waiting a few more days to release Patch 4.
