I don't understand what compels *all* of the major news outlets to lie about this. Even something like the Guardian did a similar article. Why would they completely tarnish their reputation over just games...?

Anyhow, seems like gamergate is getting larger and more powerful as a movement as time goes on. I just think it needs a lot of focus and really needs to get rid of the claims of misogyny.

I agree, and I wish it could be done, but unfortunately, I don't know if it's possible. All it really takes is for one anonymous asshole to tweet a death threat or something vicious to a high profile woman in the gaming industry, and the major gaming news outlets will cover it on their front page. And when broader news outlets try to "research" the issue, they'll find stuff like that and decide they don't need to go any further. A few people like Erik Kain of Forbes and Totalbiscuit are willing to go more in-depth and highlight the worthwhile aspects of GamerGate (and its flaws). But for many, the narrative has been set. Many people just want to believe it's an issue of horrible bigots and victimized feminists and nothing more.

 

I think lots of people on both sides realize this. And this is probably where I put on my tin foil hat, but I wouldn't be surprised if some of the vicious anonymous threats being sent were by anti-GG people to make the movement look worse.

So many issues have been conflated into that one movement (just as intended by the media). If Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarkesian with their cons could be dealt separately to the actually issue at hand it would be awesome.

Also @ the guys blaming gamergate for the shitstorm, seems like you've got the wrong guy. Go to YouTube and see the videos on it there to get a better and less biased understanding.

I offered a bandaid solution because I have no control over some random douche nuggets on the internet. Neither does anyone else. So before you get all pissy at me again, I'm on your side here. I want the asshattery to go away, but it's not.

You know, a good way to figure out who is most likely wrong and who is most likely right in an argument/debate is to just look at who presents their side of the issue in a civil, well thought out, articulate manner and acts rationally and who engages in name-calling, threats, harassment, a lot of swearing and acts irrationally.

 

I'll let you figure out which type is usually right and which type is wrong.

If what you're really expecting is everyone to side with you and complain about this, post it to r/mensfedorarights or something.
