I9 9900k, where are all the chips?

As far as I can see very very few people were able to get hands on this chip today. Retail stores I checked had 0 stock in as of today. I preordered on amazon by noon on the day it was announced (October 8th) and have zero updates from amazon other than it’s available but sold out while my account shows the boiler point we don’t have an estimate for this product. 

 

Has as anyone received at least tracking information or a chip at this point?

They don't have enough supply like all the past flopped launches

Intel has had a chip shortage this year, and the launch of a new high end chip doesn’t help.

Killing hyper threading and adding 2 physical cores is a much better gain than many imagine if you are a gamer or even a gamer trying to run 2 VM on one PC. 

 

Supporting intel or not is not the question since people will always preorder anticipating this kind of shortage. Sad part is the preorder allotment should have been held to tighter standards in order to not saturate the wait.

people buy it for being the fastest gaming cpu, but i gotta say the max oc/temps have been disappointing, never expected it to be a value buy like the 2600, and "killing" HT on the 9700k didn't bother me. I gotta say though, i expect zen 2 to catch up in single core + smoke intel with 10/12 cores.

Last gen was literally a core increase *with* hyperthreading. This is a step back. This is on par with Nvidia killing SLI support with the *70 series.

 

Gamers can easily get by with both, it's removing something for the sake of charging more for the same privilege.

the i9 is just the new i7, with a different name. they could have called it the i7 9900k, but the name is just misleading people.

I've pre-ordered it in Germany through a friend, it seems it has already reach him, but retailers are indeed without stock for common purchase.

 

It should take a week to get to me on international mailing, paying UPS most premium shipment, promises it within 5 days.

 

I have been watching the benchmarks and all though, it seems the CPU won't be as huge jump from the i7 8700K as one could hope for, then again it does have 2 extra cores and that benefit of more multi-tasking while still giving more performance per core.

 

It'll work wonders for heavy Premiere Pro/Sony Vegas video edition and even rendering now that it can also use the iGPU to hardware accelerate showing good results where it will outperform the Ryzen 7 2700X on these applications specifically, all of this along side CUDA Acceleration.

 

Also seems that nVidia finally fixed the gap Pascal had against AMD Vega cards on Solid Works and some other compute/h.accelerate with Turing.

 

Hopefully it won't throttle at stock, if it keeps stocks all perfect I'm satisfied as it seems overclocking it to 5ghz is bringing rather no difference on gaming and hardly on the productivity at the cost of considerable more power use.

 

Gotta make sure the PSU suffices as well.

A professional will pay what it has to pay because there will still be return.

And that costs quite within what you'll pay for a high end 2600x overclocking rig.

 

It is all about being senseful, people think every gamer has to have the best or better saying is "entitled" for the best when you can play a lot with cheap stuff like used GTX 980 Ti's

 

The only thing expensive is the artificial high end made by these companies to seem like what you should achieve, it's like Apple marketing. It forgets the true fun and user experience.

Time to be patient... I have this PC here with a Z390 and no CPU and I'm almost tempted to buy a used 8350K and resell it after I get my 9900K. $185 for 4 cores with no hyperthreading though, what the hell Intel.

Was going to preorder until I saw the prices. Too pricey atm for my meh-tier desktop support job salary lol. 

 

Should be able to get the 9700K/9900K around December though, hopefully Z390 boards will have dropped in price a bit then (doubtful). I use Premiere Pro very often as I edit videos for friends in return for some side cash, and the iGPU accelerated rendering would be an absolute godsend even if I have to settle with the 9700K.

I had a pre-order from Amazon, but since it didn't ship I made other arrangements and cancelled Amazon.

Also waiting to hear something from Amazon. They also did the same thing with the motherboard, but Micro Center had them all in stock locally so snagged an Asus Z390 Maximus XI Core.   The 9900k is the  last piece that I need to complete my new build with 2080 Ti SLI.  Next step will be a custom loop.

Took me all day to tear down my rig and rebuild it. ( I have 2 loops)

 

Back in windows now.

 

SIL quality is 118% and the Asus prediction says it will do 5.24GHz on 1.211v.

Nice.  Stress it and lets see some temps.  What rads or on your CPU loop?
