I love it when the Intel and AMD fans have their arguments.  So productive.

That aside, I'm just happy there's competition again since competition breeds innovation and FINALLY Intel's trying again.

Seems like there may be a leak about a 64 core cpu coming soon from amd. It reportedley scored 12,500 in cinebench multi thread, making it the fastest multi threaded processor yet. I read this article https://wccftech.com/amd-epyc-rome-7nm-64-core-cpu-performance-benchmark-leak/ but im not 100% sure on everything so i wont say much to reduce misinformation. HOwever if this is true, does this somewhat negate the new threadripper launch? I know they may have somewhat different use cases but idk. also, looks like its 7nm seems impressive to me (again i could be wrong so im sorry if i am, just let me know.)

@atomburst The thread currently has been moved to the CPU, motherboard and Memory section as it doesn't meet the requires for the Tech News Section. Once updated it may be eligible for reinstating.

Breaking news: A 64c/128t CPU performs well in a multithreaded benchmark. :D

I very much doubt anyone will be able to get their hands on one of these for a very long time.

CPU: Intel i7 6700k  | Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 5 | RAM: 2x16GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX | GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080ti | PSU: Corsair RM750x (2018) | Case: BeQuiet SilentBase 800 | Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34 eSports | SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 500GB + Samsung 840 500GB + Crucial MX500 2TB | Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU + Samsung BX2450

This has gotta be fake, this is more than double a 32 core 4GHz OC 2990WX

This is a 7nm process remember whereas the 2990wx is 12

EPYC uses 8 channels of RAM, TR only 4 and the way the 2990WX CCX work its starved for RAM bandwidth and suffers from latency.

Even the lower clocked 32core 14nm EPYC scores higher when clocked lower than 2990WX with OC.

ROME will be also improved over the current gen so there goes another performance jump.

that dual xeon 56 core system Linus has scores around 7.3k with that asus overclocking stuff enabled... 12k is huge

that is true. we would need to see a 20% uplift in performance either through clockspeed or IPC. which isnt entirely unheard of based on what to expect from 7nm

edit: we would need more as i just remembered that R15 doesnt scale that well with cores

This is der8auers dual EPYC system Cinebench OC at his office (I think he already broke the record on this screen shot). The RAM was only 2666MHz. So 20% would be +- correct.

Also we know that AMD pushes at least for 2933MHz RAM support so that would be quite a boost for all of those cores.

im hoping its 20% or more uplift this gen. though the unshure bit is how high 7nm is going to clock.
