Best character? John Marston from Red Dead Redemption

Best atmosphere... the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series... hands down. Followed closely by the first Bioshock.

Best character is uncontested for me, it's Kain from Legacy of Kain. (I can't say Geralt because he is a character from a series of books mainly)

Best atmosphere is The Witcher 2.

But some of the runner ups for best character are: Vaas, Sam Fisher, Max Payne and Agent 47.

"Same rules since the first man picked up the first stick and beat the second man's ass with it."

Maybe. He's a badass hero. Plus, the Zelda series history and Link's role in it has always been amazing and remarkable, for me at least.

Joel and Ellie. I know they're not a character, but I just loved both of them so much. The best environment in a game is Rapture from BioShock. I'm completely in love with the place. It made me decide what I want to do for a living (although it's now apparent that I'm not that good at it and I'm probably not going to end up doing that now). Also, I'm not one that believes at all in an afterlife or anything like that, even when I was about to die (or that's what I believed at the time) I never really gave that a second though, but some small part of me hoped that I would wake up in Rapture. As lame as that might sound.

Character: GLaDOS.

Environment: From the games I've played, the environments I've liked are - Uncharted series, Mirror's Edge, Assassin's Creed (all of them, except maybe AC1 which still had great visuals).
