Is this a scam on Amazon?

Hey guys,

 

I was perusing the Amazon when a came across this. 

 

Intel CM8067102055800 CORE I7-6950X PROCESSOR EXTREME EDITION 3.50G 25M CACHE https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GIO0QNC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_cvIuBbTY0HWQ8

 

Now, I don't know what to think of this. It's listed as "new" and more than half the price of other 6950x's. It's also missing most of the specs. I'm petty sure it's a scam but was wondering what you guys think.

Intel posted it and it's on Amazon so I would buy one. Not really risky at all

Well the seller (Mobile Computing Solutions) seem to have some very good reviews 97% positive from 7,165 reviews.

 

Not that I'm recommending buying it, I'd want to be certain before spending that amount of money.

multi-threaded performance. look at that userbenchmark link. the multi-threaded performance of the 6950X is a lot better.

If you would want multithreaded performance you would just get a threadripper 1950x for the same price. 16cores instead of 10.

Well, yes. That is correct...

However, assuming that it is for a personal build and not a professional workstation, that won't really matter though. The 6c/8t on the 8700k are more than capable for most peoples demands. The better single thread performance of the 8700k will help in gaming and most other tasks.
If they're planning on using it in a server or workstation build, then Xeon for ECC support.
If for whatever reason they really want 10c in a personal desktop, the 7900X isn't much more expensive, comes with 10c/20t, and has much better single thread and multi thread performance.

And as mentioned above, Threadripper.

Edit: Also the 7820X is on sale for $470 atm. 8c/16t so you still get strong multithread performance, but better single thread performance than the 6950x - and much cheaper!

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. I had a moment of, "oh shit, it would be cool to have a 6950x" without much thought if anything else. However, the processor I have is more than sufficient for my daily uses, so I won't be buying this CPU. Thanks for the great advice, as always.

I bought a used X99 system with a 6800k in it. I toyed with the idea of upgrading the CPU, but then decided to just abandon that platform altogether. I made a good chunk of change parting out that system and that was with prices aimed to sell fast.  Anyway the point is there isn't a worthwhile upgrade path with X99 and finding something AMD based will probably let you keep impulse buying CPUs well into the future.

X99's upgrade route has already come and hone with the 5th generation and 6th generation Extreme Processors.

I'm personally planning to keep my i7-6800K and X99 board for another year.
