All kids under the age of 16 should have an ankle GPS tracker.

All kids under the age of 14 shouldn't be allowed anywhere near an online video game.

All kids should just be kids and not have to worry about being bullied over social media, so ban all social media.

Controversial~

In all seriousness, giving your kid a tablet or whatever when they are young without any time or app restriction, is basically just saying "here, entertain yourself with this, I can't be bothered to raise you myself".
Technology is this generation's TV. It can be good(for learning along side being taught by a parent), just like it can be very bad. (go play with this while mommy and/or daddy are off to the store)

Even if kids get their technology taken off them, they are extremely resourceful, and will often look to alternatives. When I was a kid, I had to check my Instagram messages. I got my phone taken off me so I did some chores and bought a $20 used off a classifieds page and secretly hid it before throwing it out.

Technology is never taken off kids. They get other things within hours.

But, but, you don't understand! If they block someone, it could hurt their "social standing" at school!

Really, it's so easy to get away from online bullying, yet we see in the news some kids that decided to kill themselves after being driven in a corner by scumbags and trolls online. Kind of sad really. Bullying is serious, but unlike real life, you can easily shut them up and never have to listen to/see them again.

My dad use to put time restrictions on the internet. We used to get 2 hours to play, on weekends we could the PC for long we wanted. He used CyberPatrol.

My view on this is, when I get kids, they will get their time once they complete their homework and do their chores. As for what apps they use, it will be monitored.

Technology is used in place of parenting, and it's really sad how parents can't make time for their own children. I've seen the decline in ability to actually think, not just give up and "Google it"

technology was made for us to advance and help us live better lives, now we're slaves to what we were supposed to own. Instead of it being useless without an owner, we've become useless without it.

Before I start, let me just say: I don't have kids.

But when I do, I would have limitations on what they can do on the internet and how long they can use it. For example, I would limit the usage to a healthy amount so it's not all they do all day every day, maybe allow a few hours each day, during which they can do basically whatever they want as long as it's within the guidelines I would set. Obviously I would restrict adult/pornographic content and sketchy sites. I would also probably give them extra time for homework that wouldn't cut into recreational online time.

As for phones and mobile devices, I wouldn't get my kids a phone if they don't need one. Maybe once they reach the age when they're doing more things out of the house and I can't really monitor them, then I would get them phones. There would also be rules on where they can use the phone, such as not behind closed doors.

I would try to find a balance of being able to make sure my kids are being responsible on the internet and doing what they're supposed to do, but not being all in their face about it and controlling. I'd also not let them have recreational internet time until chores/homework are finished.

I actually really agree with that.

I like crunchy, don't have kids (lol) if I did I wouldn't let them use in game chats (like talking over a mic) until they're at least 13.

also kids don't need a fancy schmancy iPhone 8/galaxy9, in fact, they don't even use them for calling/texting half the time. I myself do not need or want any kind of phone other than just a regular flip phone, anyways. I can see getting your kid a flip phone, but only if they're at least 13 or so--because that's when they start to need them.

and before I'd let my kids play video games/laze around and watch TV, I'd make them go outside too. unrelated but kinda worth while note VVVV

I did a Public speech about how video games aren't bad, and aren't violent (at least ones rated under "T"). I mostly got laughs and weird looks from my audience , the only reason society rejects video games, at least in my community, is because they think they're addicting, witch isn't wrong, but isn't right at the same time. with moderation video games are fine. if you do too much of anything it can be bad, "Eat too much Honey and you will vomit"

(also if you wanna see that speech just tag me and I can put it in a tag/spoiler

I hope this works...

I think It is a great idea to try arguing something new. It gives you a great perspective on a topic that you may already have a different side on. That is partially why I made this topic. I think that people always having an open mind about things is a great idea.

That is the key to everything. But anything can become addicting.

Food

Sex

Drugs

Booze

Cigarettes

Coffee

Work

Porn

Working Out at the Gym

and yes ------------------->

Games!

But honey is not addictive!

@Canada EH I beg your pardon, please call the honey hotline for honey addicts at: 1800-555-420 to contribute to honey addicts

but no, serially, anything can be addictive, there are some wackadoodles who are addicted to weird things out there. I was mostly using that as a point to further moderation.

I agree that anything can be addictive. There is this show about weird eating habits:

I'll probably limit my kids screen time. I don't really mind them watching TV though, but I don't want them to end up like me where I'm always on the computer.

Kids should be running around outside and stuff or reading books etc. I don't really mind them playing a game for a while, cause I understand, but like no longer than an hour at a time.

As for phones I'll probably give my kids my old phones once they are like around 12 or some budget throw-away phone. I won't be trusting an iPhone or anything fancy to them. They can probably have a PC whenever they want, its good for education, with parental controls etc.

My school uses Iboss and Hapara. These are really easy to bypass

Yes ... that is sadly true.
My father and his new wife (my parents are divorced) have a little girl, my half sister.
Every time I visit them, they just give her a phone or sit her in front of the TV and show her the same few YT-Clips again and again and again. And that isn't even the worst. These video recording are often is russian or something. I try to tell him all the time that that isn't good for her, but they don't really listen.

This is a new one, don;t have an open mind too much because someone might lie to you and you might believe it.   They are called critical thinking skills, if you fear you might believe something because you can't discern if it is true or not, then you have no critical thinking skills.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.

Anything, if used properly, can be a tool. I have a 6yo daughter and we try to monitor and limit exposure to anything we think isn't good for her, and luckily, she loves being outside ... so it's easier for us than with other kids!

I'm in a French speaking province, so school is in French. She speaks with her mom in Mandarin and we sent her to an English speaking private daycare (so 3 languages!)

I have an old Samsung Note 4 that I restricted to only a few apps, including drawing apps that use the stylus. We have YT kids on the Android box on the TV and a few other Chinese streaming TV apps.

Time on the TV and on the phone is monitored (plus the phone battery is defective so she can't play much on it anyway).

All these come as rights that can be revoked for discipline. And that part is important, as a parent you have to put your foot down and stand your ground no matter what. If you start to give in, it's over and the kid just won and that "bad" behavior will keep getting worse.

There's at least one bad parent behind each and every bad kid out there ... remember that folks!

I mean, I was exposed to technology since I was 6 years old, and look where I am now...

On the other hand, parents should limit their kid's electronics if they don't get enough sleep or do good in school.
