Buying a GPU is more likely to eat up all your savings when the prices are high though, not low

Because GPUs will go down in price, resulting in you... Buying them for less money?  Wait maybe you buy a LOT of them expecting the price to go up because GPU themselves are the next cryptocoin?

...Yeah I'm confused too.

people have refused to buy stock in the companies?  People (who work at the stores) have refused to buy stock (GPUs) to sell?  Or something else I didn't even think of?

Regardless, how does this mean that gamers are about to lose their savings?

Maybe the OP believes that low supply = high price regardless of demand?

I think what happened is manufacturers (wafers maybe, never read the articles) where in a manufacturing craze thanks to the crypto fiasco. Because crypto has currently dropped off the face of the earth in terms of money making people (miners mostly) have not been buying GPUs, this means sellers (stores/amazon newegg etc) are not buying as much from resellers, and resellers are possibly full of soon to be outdated GPUs, so they themselves are not buying etc. Like I said I've not read the articles so to what degree I'm correct idk.

I'm guessing what OP means by losing all of our savings is once the crash happens, we will all run out and blow all of our cash on stupid stuff like GPUs instead of people idling at the street corners charging out $100+ per 15 min ;)

I don't know if they really were making more than usual for that reason - they were scared to build a bunch more than usual only to have demand disappear and leave them with unwanted cards.  My understanding is that yeah, there's been a sudden drop (40% or so I guess) in demand for cards due to people not buying them to mine much any more, and that's all this is.  If that's the case, we might see prices return to normal soon.

I guess that would make sense, but that's an odd roundabout sort of conclusion to come to :P

Well Nvidia and AMD along with their partners would have had to increase at least a little bit as it would have made financial sense to. Upgrading and new machinery maybe not, but adding another shift for 3 days a week would've likely made financial sense.

Well yea, but w/o a new gpu what else are people going to blow it on? Investments that would make real money? Then they would never buy another gpu xD

I think the thread is getting at If the prices are lower, then a consumer may be more likely to buy. If the prices are high then consumers will save for when the prices go down.

So, we can expect GPU prices to go back down to reasonable levels? .... Until the next big mining craze anyway.
