I thought this was some bot creeping in the forum but I was wrong. Also, at what year did the forum began? I know that around 2008~2009 linustechtips.com is a wordpress blog.

I know I'm a month behind, but I would just like to say this:

Thank you. After all the "How to become a mod" and "why am I not a mod yet" comments someone finally said it: You get to desirable positions in life by being approachable, good at your job, and having a good work ethic. In other words:

Depending on what you're known for posting, your reputation with forum users might be affected, but nothing shows up on your profile.

I meant more like official Forum Reputation, if I get 20 threads locked do I get banned for a week or something?

I know. 

Depending on the situation, yes. There is no black or white answer to your above question. A thread of yours being locked doesn't mean anything in of itself. It could've just gotten out of hand from an innocent topic, and a moderator had to close it. If you're posting some spam and won't stop, then you'll get a warning that only you'll(and staff) be able to see. If it continues, you could very well be suspended for a week or outright banned. 

 

Based on my experience, any first suspension will most likely be just 24 hours.

Depends on what they were locked for. Usually you get a 24 hour ban if you've accumulated 5 warning points.

 

You can also get a warning for suggesting illegal solutions to threads or posting illegal or otherwise prohibited content.

All I'm getting out of this now is that if you partake of the devil's lettuce or shiver someone's timbers, there are consequences.

There goes my "How to steal cars" thread. I'm guessing there is some kind of list for each person? so you can see they've posted 5 threads with "material more suited to a statues update"? 

 

I don't mean to ask too many questions, I am just trying to understand how some of this works, want to stay on the right side of the Mods so I don't have to bribe my way back into favor so I can be careful to not break rules, I rather like it here, I want to be as far away from banned as possible.

No actually, it's not something we keep track of.

 

Usually the problem users in this case are the ones that insist on reposting the same threads, regardless of what we do to the thread. At that point, they usually get hit with a warning.

 

EDIT: also, don't be worried about asking questions, it's a forum after all. Just be aware there are some things we can't tell you.
