I mean I haven't seen crossfire 280X's in action before, so don't quote me on this... But shouldn't two R9 280X's push at least acceptable framerates at that resolution? (with the proper scaling of course)

My hybrid drive is my biggest bottleneck.  Sure, it has that really nice SSD cache, but most things are stored on the hard drive side.

Yeah it does the job, but the issues I have with crossfire plus the heat from them, also the 3gb is slowly starting to show problems, but dont get me wrong it does the job.

I watched a 280X*2 video awhile back of a guy using 6GB of vram while play GTA V... Yeah I understand the heat issue, that's why I will never crossfire mine personally.

My GTX 760 is usually running at 99% and pushing out 30-45 FPS in a game and the CPU will be twiddling its thumbs down at 10% load. It is also an insanely hot card and was hoping to replace it with a 1060 soon. My brother needs a computer and I would probably give him the 760 to save on a GPU (Overwatch doesn't demand that much from the GPU anyway).

My storage is the major bottleneck. 3.3TBs of HDDs and not an SSD in sight. That will change very soon though!

my biggest problem is with power. A house can only supply enough amps that restricts the size of a GPGPU cluster.

can I say all of the above except for battery life? I'm running an almost three year old fx8350 and a r9280x with a 16 gigs of ddr3 Ram. So if there is a bottleneck here it's just outdated hardware

Since I play at 1080p on a GTX 1080, my cpu "bottlenecks" it sometimes so I just overclocked to alleviate it somewhat.

Does it honestly matter? Are you losing so much performance that you have to upgrade your $200 i5 to a $300 i7? Your GPU is what gives most of your frames in games and getting an i7 over an i5 only changes that by 10-15%. If you're that reliant on having zero bottlenecks, go to console.

 

As an owner of the 4690K and 4790K with a 1080, I can tell you that my games frame-rate increased a whole 13-14 frames at 5760x1080@60. Guess what? 60hz! I don't even use those extra frames since I'm already pushing almost 110 frames in nearly everything. My CPU upgrade was meaningless aside from giving my wife's 4790K a new home in my rig. The only benefit to me is the extra heat and excuse to turn up the A/C.

CPU, the 1220 is the lowest Variant on the haswell line of Xeons.

Sometimes it can reach 100% usage on more demanding games.

I was actually curious about this and plugged a second monitor into my igpu for testing. With an i7-2600,  4gb  GTX 960, and 12gb RAM, I was hitting a max of 99% on both GPU and CPU while running GTAV at 1080P 60hz/60FPS.
