What is "spend loads" ...?

TP Link has many great PCIe options on Amazon that are all under $30.

edit: never mind, you explained why you wanted M.2

You better check if your motherbord has *Wifi* slot, usually gas different key, if its nvme or msata it won't fit.

A Pcie Wifi card is really small, work on x1 and will fit easily even in an ITX case

And anyway you need a PCie external slot for the antenna

Thic is a CNVi card. Need to make sure that's what you need for your mobo's WiFi slot.

Get yourself an USB nugget then. It'll perform the same than internal cards, not having antennas won't make a difference, they're just visual placebos, people think having antennas will make their "wifi faster" (it won't).

Caroline doesn't need to hear all this, she's a highly trained professional.

This highly depends on the WiFi card being used, and the access point you're connecting to. For example, if the AP only does 5GHz, you will definitely want a WiFi PCIe card or USB dongle that has some kind of decent antenna. This doesn't always mean the antenna's are big, external things - some USB dongle WiFi adapters about the size of a USB flash drive have really good antenna configurations built right into the plastic housing. But having an adequate WiFi chipset and antenna configuration can definitely impact one's WiFi reliability and performance.
