Is 550W PSU Enough For 5600-5700XT / 1070-1080Ti?

Go to solution Solved by rippy4500,

For now probably yes, but if you upgrade to a higher power cpu it may be a problem. You can always reduce power limit on the gpu though.

Hey y'all, I'm looking to rebuild my pc and i'm kinda on a budget, I'm looking for a graphics card around the power of the cards mentioned in the title and i'm wondering if 550W PSU is enough power for those cards. The brand that i will be going for is MSI MAG 550.

Other peripherals : I5 3470, 16GB DDR3 RAM.

(I know about the bottleneck, but I'm planning to upgrade the CPU later)

Thanks.

Marginal at best for the higher end GPU like the 5600 XT and GTX 1080 Ti. The PSU is Tier C, (https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/), and would likely have issues dealing with the transients sometimes generated by more powerful GPU.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Have run a Seasonic Focus GM550 with dual 1080's folding (210w each) plus an OC'd 2600x (120w) in 24/7 operation before, and had no issues (was a bit warm, but to be expected running at the redline). So yes, a QUALITY 550w will have no issues, though would recommend a higher wattage if budget allows.

Seasonic Focus GX850 is $100 right now on US Amazon
