Random number called me

Sir Asvald

I'm trying to find who called me, the number is, 02088580126. A lady asked for my name which I accidentally said yes without thinking. After searching the number, turns out to be dodgy. Now I've blocked the number. Should I be worried? When I try to call it straight away ends.

I would suggest you shouldn't worry too much.

Don't answer numbers you don't recognize. If it's important, they'll leave a voicemail. I've used this method to cut down my spam calls to near zero.

Block numbers you know are spam/scams.

if anybody calls you and says "can you hear me?" then be worried... don't say yes to stuff like that imo

also watch your credit cards for changes.

bc in court they have a recording of you saying "yes."

Kinda my fault. I thought it was the recruitment agency. They share similar number, only last 3 digits are different

I make it a habit to never answer yes or no question outright.

"[Hi] Is this knightslugger?"

"How can i help you today?"

"Can you hear me?"

"I can hear you."

"Do you live at [address]"

"What is this concerning?"

so on and so forth. If it's someone you recognize, that/'s different, but if you're expecting a call from an unknown number (like you called tech support and left a message), i NEVER say yes or no until i have absolutely verified the identity of the person on the other side. If i'm not expecting a call at all, i let it go to VM. IF it's important, they will leave a message, or keep calling.

These spam numbers are more and more frequent. Pretty ridiculous when UK numbers call me all they way to New Zealand (Not an uncommon occurrence either!) Last week had a Nigerian phone me twice.

Even more surprising my Dad got a Fax the other day (surprising in of itself), all the way from Nigeria as a scam Fax.

What some people do here is use a whistle, but I prefer just to hang up.

I get calls too. Most of them are job scams targeting international students m(my campus student body is 40% international) or autoloans scam, donating to the university scam.

these scammers operate outside the country but they speak perfect English so you can’t tell. I did not reazlie their nationality until one time I hang up on them but they did not realize right away so they accidentally left 1 minute voice mail. In it, I can hear them talking in a foreign language and then calling up a victim and begin scamming them in perfect English. Very scary....

oh, true caller doesn’t work. I still get calls from them.

I let it ring and if they don't leave me a voicemail, I block the number, especially if it's an area code I don't recognize. I bet my block list is endless by now.

Never say yes. They record the yes and try to use it to get you to consent to billing. I shit you not a verbal yes over the phone passes scrutiny.

In fact I just changed my gas provider (same delivery) and consented to a new billing style a few months ago just by saying yes a few times.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

My favorite one ever, "This is the arresting officer."  You're going to arrest me over the phone? Honestly, they won't tell you they're looking for ya.  They will just kick your door in and shoot you.  Also, most calls phishing for a yes = scammer trying to record you.

It doesn’t work. These scammers operate out of country in places like Kenya or Pakistan or something. They will just laugh at you if you threaten to call your country’s local law enforcements.

Welcome to the club. We in the US have dealing with these asshole telemarketers/scammers for years. We have scammers that will call claiming to be from the IRS. They dont give a fuck. Its to the point I could condone my government using a drone strike to take these pricks out.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

No, I mean like the guy trying to scam me told me he was the arresting officer.  To make it worse the number he used was on the other side of the US.  So, I'm also out of his jurisdiction even if it was a legit cop.

These numbers are spoof. That’s why they were able to get past apps like Truecaller. They can even spoof their numbers to look like someone from your contact list. If you block one, they will just change number and call again.
