Windows Movie Maker long render times

I have a long video saved that i just want to cut up into smaller files. the file is mp4 and i am outputting as an mp4 at the same bit rate framerate and res that the video was recorded in. But it takes 10min to render a 20 min clip. am cpu is pegged and my gpu is at 50% load. its literally just taking footage out of a video. is there anything i can do. I have an i5-4970k @4.5Ghz and a GTX 970 FTW

Can’t VLC trim video? Make a copy of your source file and trim as needed. 

 

Movie Maker is like 3D Space Pinball at this point.

Honestly, I just keep Lightworks around so I can do quick stuff like that. It's perfect for quick and dirty edits/effects.

when you have 5 hour clips copying it every time takes for ever. and i can seem to figure out how to trim in VLC. is there another program i can use? or do something to WMM?

Just delete movie maker and get DaVinci Resolve. 

 

Not as good as Premiere, defienlty not going to be anywhere near FinalCut on the Mac, but I belive it’s free and should actually use your hardware.

I use shotcut for that sort of thing, It seems to be o.k but with only 8G ram it can take 15 Minutes to render a 4 minute video.

My dual core MacBook Pro would render a 4min Video before I was even finished making my timeline! In 4K!

So a different program on a different computer rendering a different video has different results?  Who'd a thought it.

People still use Windows Movie Maker? It doesn't even come default with Windows anymore.

its way easier than Premiere but not easier than final cut.

I hear Final cut is still losing favor among enthusiasts and professionals.   It may have suffered the same issues that they suffered in the audio world.

It is, while it edits fast and is really easy, apple doesn't have new hardware and da vinci reslove does really well as a network rendering being able to work well across dozens of boxes.

Not to mention Final Cut restricts you to how Apple wants you to make videos. Which proper professionals will never like, amateurs wouldn't notice.

 

Now back on topic... It's a program that hasn't received any improvements since probably 2012. Wikipedia says the latest stable release was in 2014, but I doubt functionally there was any difference. What did we expect from it. It was never for real video production, just for grandma to make herself a simple slideshow.

I don't render that much, but sounds about right render time. Plus MM doesn't even utilize more than single core, sooo.....
