My tiny CRT got here!

Of course a still image of a live video onto a CRT won't look great but here

IMG_1117.thumb.JPEG.085d4ca79e4e02f70b95746beeda5954.JPEG

Live view from my camera. POV of my workbench. Can make out a big ATI card and some DIMMs, as well as a CD.

This is black and white, am I just imagining it or does that CD look a bit blue and the fan on the ATI card look a bit red, and the screwdriver handle look a little orange?

It looks slightly colored which is strange.

I've experienced this as well with my own black and white CRT TVs. When I looked intensely at the screen stuff seemed to have a bit of color. Then when I looked away and looked back at the screen quickly it was just black and white. I guess I was just seeing it in color since I knew what it looks like with colors.

There is a seller on CL selling a "few years old" (as they put it) Sony PCG-181L

No specs show up for that name, but after some more searching, it's known by another name (PCG-C1MV) and contains a Transmeta Crusoe CPU...

..from the year 2000

Running Windows 7 on (at max) 256MB RAM

Tempting, just for the history value

7??

Even XP's starved on 256MB with the Sony bloat and anemic CPU 😄

But yes pretty cool machine even if only for the unusual form factor, got a C1MRX which is basically almost the same. Occasionally use it to capture/output DV

what a coincidence!  I thought I recognized that little B&W crt..

Yeah, watched that video last night.
The VHS video he plays looks significantly worse than it on a HDMI upscaler though - I can clearly read moderately sized text. More for the aesthetic than the actual use though.

Came home from school for the first time in months to find my family had done some reorganizing…

My dad has another Apple II and another c64, as well as a c128 but it’s PAL.
these were in his office at work for the school vintage computer club but I guess no one joined this year.

Just checked on ebay, 12" UV Molex CCs are only like $15. Wow, I'm going to buy one for my upcoming early 00s build! Case doesn't have a window but still, might as well - side vents might look cool?

Not old or retro yet, but I guess it's randomly EoL despite the rest of the series still going. I picked up this Fractal Design Venturi HF-12 on eBay for $20 when I was aiming for a true wind tunnel build, but ended up settling for a different configuration. I haven't been able to find this fan anywhere since - even eBay is fresh out of them now.

The latest iBuyPower review from Gamers Nexus could be posted here, they shipped it with a GT 430!

*440 I believe? May be wrong.

But yeah that was a bit shocking... I was thinking it'd be a GT 640 or something but when he said "Fermi" in the first segment...

Nah, 430. I HAVE that GPU in my basement. I used it as a template to build my mining rig so the cross bar was heighted correctly. It's so bad that it came in a new system and even worse how Nvidia clears their old junk out like that. I know AMD has done it too with the 8500's and the R5 240/340 but those are slightly more forgivable for some reason maybe because they're not as horrible as Fermi in 2021.

Glad I’m not the only one who uses other gpus as a template! My go to is the FireGL v8600

I love this card as a card and a template because they’re huge and long and most cards I would be installing are shorter and would fit so if this one does, anything will. Interesting fact, its older brother the v8650 was the worlds first 2gb GPU (next was I believe a hd 3000 series card as the first gaming card) but it’s not well known since it was for medical imaging.

You can get them sealed for $35 on eBay if you desire a 250w card that is ironically equal to a GT 430…
