Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 150k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

(long time no see, right?)

Odd question, what do you think of the BMW E46 chassis? Is it reliable enough to daily drive without much headache or should one stick to VW for cost saving's sake?

it depends on what e46 you want. if it's the m3, and money's an issue, stay away. it's just gonna be a money pit. but the normal models, like the 325i and the 330i are pretty ok as far as maintenance, for a bmw.

btw that's the wrong picture. that's an e85 z4.

-snip-

i want to see the carbon fiber one on a titanium grey miata lol.

But yeah I guess I could also get a fiberglass one and paint match it too... paint ain't cheap tho. also the acrylic window worries me in terms of longevity and scratches...

but I also don't have $2000 sitting around either so.... ugh

well iirc, the e46 and the e85 share many engines, all the way to the s54 in the e46 m3 and z4m. but they share the same engine, so maintenance shouldn't be too far off. but the only unique issues would be maybe the hard/soft top unless you opt for the coupe, and maybe the sequential manual transmission, since it was in its infancy.

but yeah @chaozbandit funny you should bring that up.. yesterday when I was driving home I looked in my rear view mirror and I could see 4 little spots above the rear window seam where there was sunlight. When I got to a gas station I went look at it and sure enough... 4 itty bitty holes. I don't know what to do about them... I'm thinking black 3M window weld?

sigh :/
