Should I take a 1060 3GB and partial refund as a replacement for a 1070

Else89
Go to solution Solved by Else89,

Ok, so i've decided to take the 1060 and partial refund. Having a working system is more important to me than a few frames. Yes i'm going to drop down in settings but it's worth it to actually play games again.

The partial refund I am getting will probably be put towards a new card when the new stuff drops. just disappointed that I can't get my 1070 back.

Title says it all.

Its either a 1060 3GB and some cash or a full refund and live without a GPU until they are in stock somewhere.

I used to play GTA V on my Asus 1060 3GB and a 1080p screen.  High settings gave about 45-50fps on average.  If you want higher settings or fps, you'll want a 1070.

will not happen on our server. some of the bases force the 1080s to drop down to 10 frames :-)

I have to keep my 970 at medium settings to maintain above 60fps (normally) it still dips in the 40's at times.

If this is an RMA service I would try to push for the 6gb at least, it's a faster card. If you are able to wait, maybe take the refund and see what Nvidia puts out for the new Ampere cards, assuming you are able to last two-three months with no GPU.

It all depends on how much they offer you. GTX 1070s are selling for $600 normally on ebay and GTX 1060 3GB is in the low $300s. Unless they offer you that much price delta, honestly I would hold off.

Demand and keep pushing for a 1070. That is what is owed, that is what you should get.

Thats what i've been doing for the last 2 weeks. They just don't have any in stock and have no idea when they will get some. (damn miners). I even tried to push the upgrade since there isn't mine, and they don't have any cards. not even 1050ti's

Perhaps this company should buy a replacement card from a competitor that has supply, and give it to you under their own warranty. Doubt they will play ball with that suggestion though unless this wqs for work or something else important.

Dropping in settings is not a big deal anyway, in modern games most of the time you won't even notice the difference unless it's side-by-side comparison, I found that for me Medium is the sweet spot.

how much is the partial refund are you at least getting more $ then the price difference in compensation ?  i wouldnt do that for an equal trade like if 1070 was $450 and 1060 is $250 id want more comp then the $200

could always try reaching out to the manufacturer's warranty dept?

what fianncial compensation are they offering alongside a 1060 3GB?

i get the feeling that youre so much better off waiting for a 1070, and certainly dont accept a refund of the original purchase price since all the prices have gone up
