Is floatplane worth it

jledrick
Go to solution Solved by vanished,

I'm not sure what the cutoff is but when the new site goes live (and the price goes up) existing members have been promised some sort of benefit (maybe grandfathered in at the old price for some time or forever?)  So if you're on the fence, maybe join now :D

You get early access, ad-free content, DRM-free downloads, arguably better video quality, exclusive behind the scenes stuff, and of course most importantly, access to the vastly superior floatplane comments section xD

  1. 1. Is floatplane worth it

So I am currently on the fence about joining the floatplane club. I love LTT and everything but I want to know is Floatplane worth it or should I just stick to youtube and the normal forums or should I become a pilot.

its up to you if you want to support them and get early access and all the other benefits

they already get sponsors so they don't need the money badly (not dissing FP club) but if you think its worth the benefits then go for it

I would say "worth it" is up to your opinion and your finances. Its only $36 USD a year so to me it is worth it, but your opinion may very. I like the early videos, reading about the content and not the BS that comes with Youtube.

Honestly it's not worth it if what you're looking for is some exclusivity for the videos (just the random floatplane exclusive), or because watching them a week in advance is something special.

What I get my money's worth from floatplane is the community and the comment section. It's not uncommon to get answers in less than 5 minutes from Nick if something's wrong and most people are nice and helpful when answering about what you wrote.

I just like it here better to avoid the cancer of the youtube comment section.

i don't really think it's worth it. i have it because i block adds... but the scheduling isn't as consistent on the early access because sometimes the video gets stuck in the pipelines and they don't have a buffer to mitigate that here, so depending on your timezone you might not a video some days and two the next. the other benefits are more dependant on if you'll use them or not. discord channels and stuff. but it's also only 3$ so no big deal

IMO, content is good, but the delivery sucks. I know they're building new site and it's all temporary, but having to use it on mobile browser is not a pleasant experience. Ideally, even simple Kodi plugin written in Python would be perfect.

If every subscription service had $3/mo to try all full features, I'd be trying everything and seeing myself. Depending on where you live, thats super-cheap or cheap in comparison. Imo the features you get right now aren't worth it. I pay because I want to support LMG.

Yeah the discord/early videos/BTS stuff is nice.

I like the layout better than youtube at the moment too.

Honestly I voted no because you can get the videos all the same a week later on YouTube for free, their income is mostly for advertising either ways.

I bought the yearly option before it was taken down. I mean $30 for a year is not bad. It also helps out the guys at LMG. I did it more because A) I use ad block, B) I like the content

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Yes, think about it your supporting your favorite YouTuber to stay alive on the net. I get the feeling that YouTube will become nothing one day.

You are paying $2.5 to Twitch/Amazon and $2.5 to LMG. FP is something like 2/3 to LMG and 1/3 to FPM.

i honestly didn't have the time to peak at every video that came out and was only interested in a few things like scrap yard wars so when that went out so did i. But when scrap yard wars comes back i think its worth the sub just to watch it early its great content most of the time.

Maybe a different view might help?

If you get a subscription you help Linus and his team making better video's in the future, that should (imo) be your main reason for getting floatplane. The fact you have access to exclusive video's and early ad-free access is a "thank you" and should be seen as a nice bonus, not as the only/main reason.
