Yes: pre-orders are also not actual purchases: games often get delayed and fail miserably to deliver on promises.

 

The difference is: those games actually come out at one point. Broken, with issues, under delivering, etc. You can complain as much as you like about AAA publishers but realistically speaking, 9 times out of 10 they have a much better chance of delivering a product timely.

 

As I said earlier you're wrong in thinking crowd funding massive games will be the future of gaming: Indie games need to remain fairly constrained or episodic none of this "We're building the most ambitious game ever made" crap that ends up switching engines fucking years into development and dealing with lawsuits before it even gets out the door.

 

You've been had man, it happens to all of us but you need to accept that reality and forget about this fucking game. Worst case scenario it comes out eventually, it changes gaming forever and you get your victory dance anyways but without promoting a game that's basically a money sinkhole.

I can't say for certain that the game will come out, since as with any game development, there is always a risk of failure. But considering that I see constant progress, I'm not going to assume failure by default.

 

When Star Citizen starts to slow and stop progress, stops putting out updates, stops communicating with backers, that's when I'll start to think it's going to fail.

Yep - for about $52 Euro, you can get either Squadron 42 (SQ42 - The Single Player campaign), or the Starter Pack (your choice between either the Mustang, or Aurora starter ships) for Star Citizen (the persistent, MMO style, online Multiplayer - the "main" game).

 

If you spend a bit more, $69 Euro will get you both SQ42 and the starter pack.

 

Basically, the ship you choose w/ the starter pack is the ship you start the MP persistent universe with. The more money you spend upfront, the "better" (I use quotations, because sometimes one ship is more of a sidegrade than an overt improvement) ship you get.

 

With that in mind, you can totally buy the cheapest pack, and then use in-game currency that you earn via playing the game, to buy a better/bigger/different ship in-universe. Every ship you can buy with real money, you can also buy in-game by simply playing the game.

 

And of course, these are essentially backer packages. Pricing and the options may well be different upon release (whenever that is).

 

My suggestion, as someone who backed the original kickstarter:

There's enough content already in-game right now to be a decent experience (albeit, buggy now and then). HOWEVER, unless you are absolutely in love with what you see? Wait until the game is finished before spending any money.

Oh yea... Speaking of long developments, remember FFXV? 

FF versus 13 debuted its trailer in 2006 and released in nov 2016. 10 years later :o

of course we had 13 and type 0 along the way but imagine how long before the release of 12 they had already started. 

FFXV was still a success though.

I find it funny how people are still defendeding star citizen with the " BUT MUY AAA GAME TAKES TAT LONG" and they dont actually do their 30 seconds of research to find out that is mostly total bs.

Skyrim: 3 years

fallout 4: 2-3 years

witcher 3: 3.5 years

seeing a trend here? 5 going on 6  years is not acceptable, I dont care what you say. Given Chris Roberts history, i dont know how anyone actually believes he will be able to pull it off. The amount of actual game play added between the first public access, 2013 and now 2018, is absolutely pathetic. 5 years to make what plays like a rushed "demo" is just sad.
