Scary as it may sound, but the average smart lock is a lot harder to "pick" than the average "dumb" lock... If you weren't aware of this and are not paranoid, I would  suggest to check out some lock picking competition videos

Why not just have a bin with this special lock on it that only they can use? I don't trust IoT enough to give it access to my door lock. 

 

Although personally I'm not a privacy nut, but I do believe there's such a thing as healthy paranoia. Everything in moderation.

I was actually thinking about that while I was making this topic. Then my friend walked over and gave this seemingly silly, but, brilliant idea. Have a second door. Delivery man has access to the first door, but not the second which actually leads into your home. Sort of like the gates you see in Hong Kong apartments.

But still, the point remains. I would not pay for an addition to my house to have a delivery man open a door. This complicates everything for no good reason, the few minutes could save the company tones of money on hourly wages.

I wouldn't either. I would much rather drive over to the post office to get my package if I wasn't there for delivery.

I have a problem with delivery guys not wanting to open my porch door to get at the doorbell on the inner door... And I never lock the porch door except on special occasions (like Halloween or when I'm away for now than a day trip). I wouldn't need a system to let anyone in as they'd never use it.

 

On the other hand, I have heard rumours that they also want to have a Locker on every street corner what parcels can go if you're not in.

This could be useful for residents that have a door/room before the actual door into the house. If I had one of those I wouldn’t have to worry about possibility of someone taking my stuff. However, if it was just a regular house. Nah man. Let the locks be dumb

I didn’t always one time a package stated it was delivered, it wasn’t... well at least not at my house.

After calling them they refunded me with no fuss, however every package gets a photo under the tracking info now.

This probably has to do with Amazon moving into the whole food thing.  If they need to deliver refrigerated goods, they can't just leave them on your door step. They'll need access to your fridge.

I bet this service would be a real boon for US intelligence investigations, and, obviously, Amazon, or US agencies could trick the tracking mechanism.

 

Also, who knows what might be left in a targeted person's house - like a microphone, or movement tracking?

 

After all, the US gov't did leverage Best Buy employees to snoop on people's PCs without a warrant, and Best Buy isn't even the largest business partner of the CIA, unlike Jeff Bezos.
