Dear Linus, Do you think you could be just a *little* bit nicer to him?

Neilz0r

Hey Linus.  Big fan of the show, so I say this with the deepest of respect and admiration.  I've noticed on the WAN show, sometimes you tend to be a little too harsh and/or hypercritical of James any time he says anything.  Other than that, I love the show.  Love everything you do.  As usual, everything you guys do is DANK AF.

I think Linus doesn't actually mean to be harsh, It's just what you call 'workplace banter'. When I've been to garages for work experience you see this all the time, you get used to it but I understand some employees take it too seriously and think they are getting bullied when it fact it's just a bit of fun.

It's really just joking around, not serious making fun of him. I think James understands that too, so it doesn't feel like there's any harm done to me.

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Do this:

And make sure you do it by hitting the quote button at the bottom left of my post, and not the one inside the editor!

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

To be fair, if someone you are “having a bit of fun with” thinks they ar getting bullied... I’m sorry to say, you *ARE* bullying them.

With that in mind, if James does not feel  bullied, then it’s totally fine. It’s harsh humour but if James is in on the joke and having fun then there is no harm.

(I am not a lawyer; this is not legal advice. This is my understanding to the best of my knowledge. Blah blah blah.)

Since they're in Canada that's technically not true. Workplace harassment laws up here are a little overprotective and some things, especially sexual harassment or racial humor, are considered workplace harassment even if the person at hand doesn't mind. Overall it's a good thing since it protects a lot of people, but it does restrict things a bit in the workplace.

That being said, this is a media group and tropes like this do exist. If it's done for dramatic effect as part of the show then it should be fine. It will fall down to the CBSC whether it's an appropriate broadcast, which they have no authority over since it's on the internet and not Radio/TV. I don't know why, but somehow an internet broadcast gets treated as something substantially different than other telecom broadcasts up here.

Lol.  Yeah, let's not get into the whole "legal" area.  I'm not suggesting it's workplace harassment.  Guys, you're taking this way too far.  Back to our regular programming, please. :)
