My Brother Owns a Gaming PC And Does Not Manage His Cables, Should He Keep Them Messy Or Not?

SLIClocker

I would leave it until his next PSU or motherboard upgrade since doing it just for cleanliness after-the-fact isn't a priority.

Well, this does spark creativity. ;) *hint hint* Please don't report me.

"May your frame rates be high and your temperatures low"

I misread titles/posts way too often--correct me if I don't.

Otherwise, cables wont harm airflow. insects getting stuck in your case fans might, but thats not what this thread is about

Where I live, I've seen things like these…:o

Or I might come back from AFK to see that this dear sweetie

has done this. :o

Hence, why I'm now using these.

She also did this.

It still works, though.  My parents are using it with their laptop, because although my dad recently bought a new laptop keyboard for it, some keys (like "L") don't work at all. (So ⊞+L doesn't work.)

A couple times in the last few days I've caught her nibbling on one end of a SATA data cable, or a fan cable.  Of course I shoo her away from my computer when she does that.

I hope he keeps his cable management juuuust a wee bit better than my bro's and parents' old computers.

or better than my own first build :P  (Btw, just curious, how would you have cable managed a build in one of those old cases with no side panel space and that used IDE ribbon cables? :D)

I'd hope my current build's cable management is improved at least a little :) compared to my previous build and my bro's and parents' older builds :)

Yeah, I know, I need to clean the dust out of mine.  And I think I have room for improvement on the backside cable management as well.

I'm sorry, but are you under some kind of false impression that straight, neatly arranged cables, repel dust and spiders?

Not wanting a pile of dusty cables next to your PC is totally understandable.  When I was in college my roommate would leave garbage everywhere on his half of the room.  It drove me crazy.  It's the same concept.

my bosses neighbor is too lazy to rake the leaves in the their part of the driveway. so my boss just cleans it up for them cause its going to end up on his part of the driveway when the wind blows it over.

I... I don't think it's the same concept.  First, and maybe I just live in a part of the world where dust behaves differently, but straight, neatly arranged cables ALSO collect dust.  In fact, in my home, most areas that are undisturbed by me, such as shelves and table tops, be they occupied by collectibles or flat and barren, collect dust.  Does dust not do that in other peoples homes?  Is this just a me thing?

The point is that their computers are right next together, and he's not talking about internal cable management.

Still doesn't matter. It's his box, and he can do with it as he pleases. Since he's 12, the only opinion that matters is his parents'. If they don't care, and he doesn't care, then OP needs to jstfu and stop being a whining nancy.

OP I got you man,

Tell him to stop been such a slob and take pride in his things, Learn to look after yourself and your own things, small difference like with can even change how other people see you and tend to lead to been treated with more respect and responsibility. Also girls tend to lean towards guys who are cleaner and got their shit together. Start now and it just becomes habit as you get older.

Which alters absolutely nothing about what I said. Until the parents say "Well herp, your older brother derp's been crying and whining in our ears incessantly, so could you please make an attempt at cable management?", he has no reason to do so if he doesn't want to.

Title mostly explains it, He always has his cables at his setup ALWAYS messy and he will never clean them up, He does not believe me that it looks terrible and will not do anything about it, I am writing it to prove to him that he should clean his cables because it looks disgusting, Who is with me?

its his computer so its his choice. live it and worry about yourself would be the smart thing to do.

You're making a much bigger fit about it than he is actually. 9_9

If a roommate leaves their shit lying around, I'd call them out on it.  There's nothing wrong with that.

This. Do it YOURSELF

maybe seeing you take care of his pc like you do yours will rub off on him.  But then again he’s 12, how many 12 year olds are tidy?

It doesn't matter.

Some people just want to build PC fast and let it run.

Others have the need to take care of the cables.

In the end, why do you even bother if it's not your PC?
