Oh fricc, I didn't answer this did I? 'Twas an offer. It was buy it now for $39, I offered $30 so it came to $45 shipped. Nearly $55 for a board that may not work is eeeeeh. I got a mint condition X99 Micro2 for $50 because someone breathed slightly on 2 of the socket pins (it's had 0 issues for me). And those suckers still go for $200-300 or something on eBay last I checked. I'm not inclined to pay that much for a broken board. Most I've ever done is $99, and that's because it was a mofuggin' SR-2.

Question for anyone else with an MSI board since the names for the voltages will probably be the same. What voltage do I change to give the IMC more juice? I really want to get my ram running at 2400mhz.

It's not called DIMM voltage or something to that effect?

No, there's another one I think. DIMM voltage is what goes to the ram directly. That's running at 1.65V, which is what's spec'd for my kit.

Aha. VTT. Also beware you may not want to push it all that high. Seen some OC boyes say 1.2v was fine for extreme OCing but IDK if that's on exotic cooling or not. But given X58 chips are beefy and also cheap to replace, worth fucking around with. I'd just try and keep it as low as possible to avoid cooking the IMC. 

The other guys here who are far more experienced at overclocking should have better info though.

Cool cool. I'll probably just nudge it up slowly until I see cpu-z and 3dmark reporting my ram running at 2400mhz (or 1200mhz in cpu-z). I'm sure there'll be a small difference when I run CB r15. I really want to see 1k+ out of my i7 970 and I'm really close.

I have noticed. 

we can get an even more impressive post count if we do that

 

But will it lead to confusion if people don't specify what platform they're talking about? Or trying to keep up 3 convos about different platforms at the same time? 

Though for the forum's/ease of access' sake it does make sense.

well, my thought process was that this particular thread doesn't have too much traffic, which is why i was thinking to condense it with x79, which imo would definitely be better than 3 seperate threads, but still more organized than jumbling them ALL together

Yes. Also yos dewit, I can edit the OP and title on the X58 thread to reflect the change, and update any resources that may have been there, I haven't checked back at it in a damn while lol.

That's why I thought about just making one HEDT thread. X79 is more like X99 in my opinion.

True, quad channel + PCIe 3.0 does make it more similar to X99 than X58. 

And yos merge them into my X58 one because it has a bigger post count so it's importanter and we can make a big Intel HEDT thread. 

And then an AMD HEDT thread for @Den-Fi to spam pretty TR pictures in.
