SR2 part acquisition shenanigans are starting. Got a demo model 900D for a song, also bought an ssd and AX1600i PSU. Mobo arrives tomorrow so am going to hopefully have test fit stuff and booted mid week.

Also this case is freaking huge and fills up my large car's trunk.

AX1600i PSU

Oho the chungus! Tbh it's the only real choice for this board. Doubt a Classified 1500W can be easily found and those are likely quite out of date since they released in 2012 (specs here btw: https://www.evga.com/products/specs/psu.aspx?pn=fddcbf04-5c70-4324-930f-e9295a96cef5), and the modern 1600W T2 costs more than an AXi unless you get it on sale. Which I did, but that T2 needs to live in my soon to be X79 rig, because it's the only PSU I currently have with the 12v rail amperage rating EVGA specs for 2 780 Classifieds, and I do plan to push those a good bit.

And best of luck on the board, hopefully it'll behave perfectly. Mine has been a bastard, need to pull it out sometime and see if it'll behave again, but I'm up to my ears in all the other rigs I need to build rn. And by my calculations based off what I paid (going off memory for some and as many old invoices/receipts as I can find, my purchases span from 2018 up to this year), about $5,120 into them at this point, and I still need some parts for the X58 rig I have planned. Once completed, I'll have an X58, X79, and two X99 rigs operational, then I'll be free to eyeball X299 and 5520 (aka doing something with the SR-2). Sweating wallet noises. ?

@Zando Bob haha yea....I'm using my invoice totaling ignoring powers from years of motorsports to my benefit on this build. I figure I've wanted to do this for sooooooo long that screw it. Way cheaper than car stuff.

I'm happy to help offset costs by buying WC shiny.....just sayin'

On PSU, the store had the Corsair and EVGA, the 1600 T2 being about $50 cheaper.....but out of stock, and it's 20mm longer. I'm a bit worried that I'll run out of enough cables anyway when I try 4x GPU. Might need to grab another PSU for that, but hoping not. Might just get 4x low power ones.

On the bright side, the 900D will house two PSUs if you need it do.

Yep, big reason I bought it over the Anidees. Downside is can't fit as big of rads if I use dual PSU. Can't win everything!

Ah nice, most of the time I see them for $20 or so new, and they are a worse PSU so it's not the best deal. I was lucky to snag mine coming off the mining craze so I assume they had massive overstock, got it brand new direct from EVGA with the full 10 year warranty (12 year if registered in time but I don't remember if I did or not) for $179.99.

And hmmm but 1000W of GPU in the form of 4x 980 Tis is certainly a nice prospect ?

Also needs to be dusted off, it's been sitting in a box for a good while now. Other VRM block is somewhere in said box as well ?. Whether I'd sell or not is mostly down to whether I decide to stick with air or not. To be fair, Xeons can be pushed as hard as possible for daily running on air, water just helps if you wanna dump voltage in and not think about it. Tis thinking time, because I tend to get attached to my hardware, but also hate having it sit around if I know someone else will actually use it.

Also have pics of the SR-2 last I had it out, just because:

I mean I can pull over a 3rd of that with a single GPU rn...

And my 780s should do 225W each stock, more at 1.2-1.25v, and you can do softmods to force feed these suckers 1.35v with no vdroop so.... power consumption will be yes.

@Crunchy Dragon It took me some time to find the time to write the VFIO Guide but now that it's done I've setup the Virtualization Discussion thread.

I hope it lives for at least a little while. I have the distinct impression @TopHatProductions115 might be all over it. :3

Blackhat had not one, but two 295x2s at one point, IIRC he had to run a dual PSU setup for that lmao.

Holdup it's a really funky name uh.... here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E1JGFA0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Tis two NH-U9DX i4 coolers. Mount to the server-style backplates with threads on some LGA1366 boards (such as the SR-2), LGA2011, and LGA2011-3 boards. Also absolute god tier mounting system compared to my CoolerMaster V6 GTs, which would perform much better but are absolute hell to mount so I replaced them with these lol.

I'm high off actually shipping stuff out for once (i7 920 to Crunchy, some toasted stuff, GPUs, and a working mobo to Hat), aaand looking at the money I need to dump into my X58 rig, let alone getting the SR-2 a case and PSU and such, the odds are defo in your favor. If I track down the other VRM block and get them cleaned up I'll make a decision. ?

If you're in the position to actually use the blocks within a reasonable (well, as reasonable as projects like this get) timeframe, that's another plus. Again, I don't like having the stuff just sitting around with nobody to give it the use it deserves ?

Indeed, was running dual 295x2s, with a 1000 and a 750 watt PSU. The 750 was begging to die and the 1000 was damn close. Now I have 4 290Xs about to be custom looped but I'm not making the same mistake again, going dual 1200 P2 this time. 750 watts per 295x2 was hell, but 400 watts per 290X is gonna be something else. 1500 watts of GPU then, 1600 watts of GPU now. Must prepare, lol.

Tis for this mobo:

As you can see it does not fit in normal cases very well, and this is an Air 540 that already fits some beefy mobos. XL-ATX is a hell of a form factor, this specific board is basically 2/3s of an SR-2.

I think I've decided at this point that my next build will be done in a 750D. That's actually the first case I fell in love with ❤️

I think I've decided at this point that my next build will be done in a 750D. That's actually the first case I fell in love with ❤️

Shall see how it is once it arrives. Should be hella nice, and it was on the cheaper end of cases to actually support XL-ATX. My Air 540 is damn nice, so this bigger boye should be very noice as well. Could have gotten a Define XL R2 for a bit less, but airflow is worse on that case.

750D is, in my opinion, one of the best cases made in the last 10 years. It'll hold everything you need it to and have room for hamsters.
