we ran dual 7300GT's in the work PC we built 10 years ago, does that count as crappy?

I could only look at the video at 360p but it looks like the electrolytic capacitors on the cards were already swollen (therefore faulty, outside their original specs) so probably cards were unstable from start and you got lucky the default card was more stable or something like that.

edit: yeah at 2:15 in video, definitely all capacitors in that bottom card are screwed. Probably GSC / Sacon brand well known for being shit capacitors

edit 2 : really if that's the case i'd expect at least one person in the staff to have the technical knowledge to spot something like this and potentially make basic repairs like buying 3$ worth of capacitors and soldering them to a pcb.

That card does work and is stable in games, although I imagine it wouldn't be stable for a whole lot longer.

Now I want to see a multi-GPU scaling comparison. Maybe including Geforce 900-series, 1000-series, and AMD Vega, to cover the different relevant protocols.

Maybe a low/mid-range card and a high-end card from each series, to see if multi-GPU scaling can actually improve/degrade based on the individual card, not just the interconnect and/or architecture.

Do we know if Volta will be using a different multi-GPU interface yet?

"Do as I say, not as I do."

-Because you actually care if it makes sense.

Aww dangit. I just built a new PC this last weekend and put this video on for some entertainment while I prepped my old hardware to be a rig for my wife. So hear "only x58 chipsets support..." and look up to see an awfully familiar capacitor on screen. I watch more and realize that LTT is using my old motherboard to host the crappiest "SLI setup of all time." I'm not sure if I should be offended or pleased that my old hardware was good enough to support this awful setup.

This video is pretty much how I felt trying to get my SLI working lul. Although it was much easier, getting the cables and everything was an absolute pain.

Linus I suggest using Windows 7 32bit instead of Windows XP SP3 32bit. I've faced similar issues with my graphics card in WIndows XP SP2. But it didn't occur in Windows 7. Try windows 7 32Bit and see.

We tried that and it didn't work, could only enable SLI in Win XP

I cant believe that even in the SLI configuration, the 3D text screen saver stutters. I think that the lifespan in older hardware is slowly disicipating.
