Companies testing EE—including giants like GE, Boeing, DHL, and Volkswagen—have measured huge gains in productivity and noticeable improvements in quality.

TL;DR: Companies have been quietly using a revamped version of Glass for a few years, seeing shockingly good on the job performance improvements such as " 46 percent decrease in the time it takes a warehouse picker using the product "

Features were an improved 8MP camera with red recording light, lighter, longer battery life design, better processor, improved wifi and security support, better prescription glass support, and OSHA safety glass support.

i have litteraly only seen a singler person have google glass IRL in my life. i find them neat though, id love to try a pair some day

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

I still wish I could of got my hands on one. I love the concept and am glad when it went hush hush it really didnt. Also it appears the AR part of it is still not there yet which is still the biggest selling point of it. I still have my hopes for it.

I saw people wearing them in airports back when I had my travel job.

 

I have always thought they had more business applications than consumer ones.

 

I also said the same thing about tablets...

Yeah the main issue with the initial public release version is that the tech just was not ready yet. Google X even acknowledged this, kinda... There was a real problem of no development of apps for it. I remember at some point twitter even pulled support for it without releasing a version.

do you know if you can even buy them anywhere? im guessing they are insainely expensive but id love to take a look anyway

Ebay, used. The release price was about 1500 iirc, and resale as they were dying off was about 1100, no clue what the going price is now

They suck a lot. They give you the worst head and eye ache you will every experience as you are really straining your eye focusing on something inches away from it. I wore one for a day and wanted to cry. VR is different

This doesn't really surprise me much. Heads Up Displays have a wide area of application. If Google cracked / cracks it then they will be in for a juicy income.

I've worn Google Glass briefly.  It's awesome (and I didn't have the strain issues mentioned earlier), but at the same time...  Google was really optimistic when it pictured Glass as something that the general public would wear.

 

I don't need a dedicated external eyepiece just to record my day or remind me to turn left.  In its existing form, the technology is best for businesses where an always-visible display would really come in handy, like those warehouse workers.  Everyone else?  If you need fast access, get a smartwatch.

 

We should probably revisit the concept when you can fit it into contacts, and even then I'm not sure that people will rush to embrace the concept.  By then we might prefer Mass Effect-style holographic displays on our wrists.

My favorite use is road navigation; where it is extremely convenient. Aside from that, there are almost no apps, most of them are pretty gimmicky, and the battery life is abysmal. You can take it, charge it up to full, turn them on and do NOTHING for two hours and have 60% battery.

I still think in the consumer market, the Glass was a solution looking for a problem.
Business use.... Yeah I can see a use, but I have to wonder if the camera on it can be abused, like your boss saying "Oh I see you were slacking off for 15 minutes". - Something thats happened at my job ever since we installed new security cameras.

Also if I recall they only made right eye versions? Or left eye versions were very rare. Which is problematic because apparently 1/3rd of the population who (like myself) are Left eye dominant. Also little side note: Being left eye dominant is 3x more common then being left handed.
