Yes, that would make sense, for some reason I didn't think of that. That would actually be half the price, thanks! The actual reason is that when I chose 2x8GB sticks on PCPartPicker, I was working out a build with my girlfriend since she's interested in that too, I chose that RAM and I've been kind of planning on upgrading to that build for myself from the PC I have now.

I'm due for an upgrade and it shold be coming in late October at the latest.

I plan on going Ryzen 7 and a new case. 

 

Later down the road I'll get some newer and nicer GPU.

New upgrade due : More fittings, new Case (SMA8), new pump and res, more radiators

Upgrade after that: SLI GTX 1080Ti STRIX, EKWB full cover blocks for them

 

A new monitor comes after that and that will be the end of this PC's upgrade life, I'd be starting a new build after that.

I might pick up a top tier Volta or get a second hand 980 ti for sli depending on the prices at the time, probably a 980 ti just to try out sli.

 

I'll however pick up an ultrawide oled monitor when they become available.

Once I get the rest watercooling stuff from Alphacool, I am going to switch from my placeholder rig to the 6950X and 1080ti SLI.

 

Future plans: in 2018/2019 (depending on when the GPU's will appear) sell one 1080ti, give second to my brother and go for Volta TI

Probably somewhere in 2020/2021 will think of switching to next HEDT platform if the performance difference will be big and there will be some good motherboard for it - dat Rampage Edition 10 is just so beautiful ;-)

Yeah, I just found a great yet risky deal on a X58 Mobo, with a W3520 CPu, Tho i will sell the CPU i will buy a better one in stead.

Current specs i7 4790k, 16GB RAM and 980Ti. 

 

Using a Qnix 2710 1440p

 

will be upgrading the monitor to an ultra wide in February when I get my bonus

 

then will take a look at the new Nvidia cards later next year, not much time to game at the moment with two young kids so the 980ti will serve me well until then!

 

Switch suits my lifestyle a bit more at the minute as I can play on the train to work

2018: New case: Fractal Design Focus G

          New power supply : something good, probably a corsair RMX650 or Seasonic 650w Focus Plus

          Another stick of 8gb DDR4 to total 16gb. 

 

2019: New Processor(?): likely an R5 1600, or whatever is reasonable that fits AM4 at the time.

 

2020: New GPU and maybe a monitor with a higher resolution. Hopefully AMD has something decent by then.

Nice! those are really nice! I have two x5690s in my current computer running at 3.4 but they turbo up to 4. I have been considering getting a normal x58 board so I can overclock but I haven't done it yet. I would like to keep running a dual socket board and overclock but the only board that does that well is super rare and really expensive now

The whole combo is 65 euros, But i think i can get it down to 55 or 50 euros. I am getting a extra CPu with it so i can sell that for about 10 euros.

I would try to get it down, I bought an x58 board with a W3550 the other day for 50usd so about 42 euros

Ohh the Mobo is a EX58, So quite a great find, plus i have a E5630 CPU to fit in Instead of the W3620 it comes with.
