How often do you upgrade?

I'm purchasing a new smartphone every two/three years.

When it comes to desktops it's a bit more complicated. I'm still using the PC i've build in 2013. They only thing I upgraded was storage and a new graphics card. Most people still game on 1080p60fps, but I'm looking forward to seeing more 21:9 aspect support.

I'm currently waiting to see how VR will develop however, I'm planning to upgrade to Ryzen 7 this year.

I read that a major company (Samsung I think?) said that they plan on getting SSD storage down to current HDD price per GB levels by 2020.  It would be amazing to get a 3TB SSD for $75 and nothing else for storage.

That will totally depend on what all might come out these next few years, both game- and hardware-wise. As it sits right now I probably won't mess with it unless something breaks, I'm actually pretty content at the moment.

Anyone who tells you that you can't do something is unimaginative and probably a coward.

Isn't that the graphics card that cryptominers nearly doubled in value?

Why not sell it while it's at peak now and get the GPU you want?

I suggest getting the Toshiba p300 3tb HDD

Cheap, good and fast. No problems so far

It depends.

I'm already satisfied with my build seeing as I spent well over 4 grand on it's upkeep and upgrades this year alone.

The next path for me starts in 2019 where I learn how to do hardline tubing, and maybe put some nice cablemod cables and some nice LED strips. I'm just focusing on aesthetic at this point. Who knows what the future will bring in terms of tech.

Don't really need or have any changes planned for the next few years, and when it is finally time to upgrade, it will be a total rig rebuild, probably just keeping the PSU and perhaps the GPU, depending how far away it is and how much I still game

Oh, and my drives xD or at least the SSDs.. the HDD might be kind of old by then

Throughout the year, I plan on completely upgrading every part of my PC, except the power supply.

Motherboard: MSI Gaming M3 H170 > Asus ROG Maximus VIII Hero (already own this right now).

Case: NZXT S340 > Unknown, need case that will let me install the new motherboard.

Graphics Card: Gigabyte GTX 560 TI > Gigabyte G1 GTX 1070.

RAM: Hyperx Fury 2x4 GB DDR4 > Corsair 2x8 GB DDR4.

Monitor: Generic 1080P TV > Asus ROG Swift PG248Q.

CPU: Intel Pentium G4500 > Intel Core i7-7700

Somewhere in 2018 I would like to upgrade my 770 to something bang for the buck 1070 perhaps? Maybe amd dunno. Would like to get some more ram as well if I can find a second kit of what I already have second hand I'll snatch it.

For now CPU is fine perhaps in 2019ish I'll rebuild with 2nd gen zen (if they go Intel naming scheme) the r5 2600 or something but that means new board CPU and ram. So I'll see.

Maybe I'll pick up the fluid gaming stuff from ek if I have extra budget at some point. Because liquid cooling is baller AF

Probably I'll try to go down 1 size from atx to matx if I do the CPU swap.

Lots of maybe, its and perhaps haha but the gpu upgrade will happen for sure.

Why not 4*4 gb ram? Might be cheaper upgrade you should have the ram slots for it
