I'm gonna get a 1700 and yes I'm planning on OC'ing it.

The way you worded the question by throwing "have you" or "would you consider" both in, the answer is always going to be yes.

I mean...

If you bought an unlocked CPU why wouldn't you OC?

I would understand why you wouldn't if it's Ryzen though, since you can't buy a Ryzen CPU that's locked xD

Even at stock I would say Ryzen is better unless the Ryzen CPU at hand is the 1400

That is a double edged statement.

People on a budget will most likely go fir a locked i5 with some sort of aftermarket heatsink.

People with bang for buck and squeezing the most out of their purchase will look for something like an R5 1600 paired with a decent heatsink or AIO.

And then there's people with more money than common sense that pair R7 1800x with a 1080ti to play CS:GO and Witcher 3 (hey, at least I got my 2% commission and assembly fee out of that entire fiasco)

I actually bought both my k i7's purely because they had higher baseclock and bosot clock than the none k. I obviously got past that and started clocking soon after and like you, my Ryzen sits at 3.95ghz (1.35v, need 1.4v for 4ghz - go figure haha and I don't want that heat in the loop for the sake of 0.5fps)

You jest, but I've heard of people overclocking their USB ports for better mouse polling rates.

@jjohnthedon1 beat me to this point by 3 hours, because I didn't read the thread completely. Way to go, me.

I know people do that but I never really bothered. Going from 1ms to 0.25ms input lag... having more FPS and monitor Hz makes a lot more difference.

unfortunately, with intel at least, if you don't want to overclock but get the highest stock clocks you would still need to purchase a k processor. It's so dumb. The latest LTT Amazon video reflects this with many people buying an i7 7700k and purchasing a b250 chipset

With the b 350 being the second most sold board that just means consumers are not getting there ryzen cpus off of amazon
