Thankfully I wised up to how shit it actually is. Got myself a M12II and a 250D for about triple the price, but who cares :P I mainly wised up cause of the video below:

OH NO, once the smoke escapes you can't get it back in. I know...   I've tried.

It's amazing how many of those units are out there though.  I am surprised there aren't more house fires from these things.

I've had a LGA 775 computer running for 6 years on a 20€ PSU. I even overclocked the damn thing, shame it died earlier this year :(. Still, I think you shouldn't cheap out on the PSU, the thing can take out the whole system with it if you're not lucky. There are plenty of resources nowadays as well, you don't have to buy things uninformed; jonnyguru has incredibly detailed reviews of power supplies. So do your research and THEN buy (this applies to everything imo)

For me, it depends on what the PC is for. If it's a high power overclocked gaming rig, you bet your ass there's a Tier 1 PSU going in there. If it's a typical PC build for me, something like an M12II/S12II or CXM will more than suffice. If it's just a run of the mill desktop or HTPC that might be called upon for some light gaming, a $30 EVGA 80+ unit is plenty. If I'm trying to collect on homeowners insurance and/or kill someone, Logisys, Diablotek and any other 500W found on eBay for $20 or less become options.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

The fact that it is 80+ Bronze doesn't mean it is a good psu.

Of course not, capacitors count for a lot more. Efficiency wise, anything modern below bronze is atrocious.

Not really. There are some Antec Delta units which are only 80 plus but they are pretty decent. There isn't much difference in savings on electricity between 80 plus and 80 plus bronze.

If you were only running a basic office pc then an Antec VP350 would do fine.

What really matters is the rating (80+, 80+ gold ETC......) NEVER get a PSU without a rating.

PSUs are very important to me. I will spend top dollar for a quality unit, like a G3 or PRIME.

Efficiency and rating means nothing towards the quality of the PSU. Same goes with brand names. (Except for brands like Logisys)

what matters is the Model. For example, The EVGA NEX is not a good unit. But it's a gold rated fully modular system. But for its price it's not good. The G2 and G3 are supremely superior.

I never look a tier lists. Don't give a single damn about them. I do my own research on a unit.

PSU always matters to me. If i'm building a gaming rig of any sorts you can bet there's gonna be a Tier 2 at the very least in there. PSU is not the place to cheap out to save money. Saw a friend do that (even though I told him not to), and his brand new gaming build went up in smoke. $650 down the drain, just like that. As if I wasn't paranoid enough, that convinced me. Tbh I don't get why you'd cheap out on a PSU anyway, they're so important and you won't get too much savings. Most higher end models only cost $50 more than a shite one, max.

Tiers not so much, but since @STRMfrmXMN structured, (at least to my knowledge) the tier list to be ranked in accordance of quality, reliability, etc, I'd said yes.

Quality PSU's are important, unless you have the income to replace your whole system in event of it going down (Higher the tier, generally the lower the risk).

By cheaping out, you unintentionally are risking your entire system, and every reputable brand has bad PSU's, either due to outdated parts are being overpriced for what they are.

Rating =/= quality too, and since Seasonic's S12ii or Corsair CXM Grey's are quite cheap in areas, it makes little to no sense to use a cheaper PSU and risk damaging your whole system.

I remember building a pc for someone who was just dandy about putting a raidmax 635w in his rig. we put the raidmax in without batting a eye and nothing blew up i guess its all about what works in the end. He put more money into his gpu and its still working to this day so theres that. i personally wouldn't do that but watevs

I care very much about my PSU, but the tier list isn't a useful resource. Look at what's on sale and read reviews rather than trusting a list to be relevant to your needs; every PSU is different in ways that a single linear scale can't hope to express.

A few really great PSUs are overshadow by the lack of interest of those "known reviewers" to give a proper look at them, I personally like well known PSUs but for instance the Zalman GLX I'm using right now isn't listed and I would give it at least a tier 3, it's dead silent, no coil whine, power ups my system perfectly fine, has all the latest safety measures: no issues what so ever with it for the past 6 months of usage, the sole issue I could point out is not being modular.

The only issue I have is with people going like, oh it isn't an EVGA G2/3 or Corsair RMx? so it's a firebomb!, that is an absurd exaggeration.

I think it's wise to invest in a good quality PSU. They're in general the longest lasting component in a system as you don't need to upgrade it that often.

CPU: i7-12700KF Grill Plate Edition // MOBO: Asus Z690-PLUS WIFI D4 // RAM: 16GB G.Skill Trident Z 3200MHz CL14

Yes PSU does matter for me.

I want it to be fully modular, so I only use cables that I need, to make everything looks more clean.

I also want PSU that can deliver enough Amps and Wattage to my components.

100% japaneese capacitors are a must

0 zero fan mode ia also great

And it also needs to be 80+ gold, to make me feel better.

You can get all that for about 100$, which is small price to pay, compared to 1500$ that I spent on my PC overall.

I mean if you pay 400€ for your CPU and 500€ for your GPU, I bet you want to power them with something stable and not Tier 20 PSU for 5$.

Higher tier psu has a better build quality and performance but of course it depends on what u are gonna use it for.

Dont buy a tier 1-3 psu if u just want to use it for an office pc.

But to be honest PSU is NO1 Pc component that u must be concern with and u should never cheap out on your psu.

higher tiers = higher price $$$$$

You should.  While higher efficiency usually goes in line with higher quality, there are plenty of 80+ Bronze PSU's with a reputation for catching fire.
