The only reason I'm still here is because of the car thread in Off Topic. And sometimes I want to see some nice builds. But the main reason I don't post that often anymore is because it's all the same questions, all the same answers, over and over again. I've seen it for years now.

Honestly, asides from mods and admins, I never got why most people stick around as long as they do.

Most forums consist of people asking the same questions, often times basic ones (albeit not always easy to Google with their personalized search bullshit). Then there are the trolls, and what few interesting conversations typically don't last that long.

Hell, I only hang around in hopes that @MageTank does his RAM OC guide, talk to @leadeater on occasion, and in hopes that Thread212 will come back and I can talk to her again. I generally get bored of a forum after a week otherwise.

If you look at some car forums, there are still active accounts from the late '90s.

For many the problem isn't knowing that the question has been answered before but finding that answer they know exists, we live in an age of almost limitless information but it's not necessarily making us any more informed or intelligent.

All true. it is repetitive which is why i think some people get crabby when they answer, they have answered many times before. However you should note that while it is not your first time and you possess more knowledge (supposedly), it most likely is their first time and they possess less knowledge which is why they are asking.

they do not see their question as dumb or answered a million times, they just want to understand the subject and have not trained in it. You see it as elementary level crap because you have spent years studding this stuff, it is so easy, why can they not just understand or research more. You just want them to go away but you (hopefully) have a good heart and try to help them but get all elitist about it because you are annoyed. they see it as insulting, which it is. bottom line is if you are at that stage it is best simply to go away for a while till it is fresh and new again or you achieve a different life view.

or you do what the rest of us do. Realize we're now all bitter old meme-war veterans and lurk off topic and a few choice subforums we know by heart,  while letting the new members take care of the questions that have been asked and answered a thousand times over.

The problem is that a lot of people just come here and post half-assed posts that don't contain enough info to answer properly, get mad when they don't get the answers then want and in the end they could have saved everyone a bunch of time if they had just googled something.

I shit you not, I have seen several threads where I just googled the title of the thread and found the answer to the question in the first result on Google.

If you're smart enough to post a thread on the forum then you're smart enough to google it.

If you don't even bother spending 10 minutes googling it for yourself, why do you demand that someone else spend maybe 20 minutes of their time answering the question for you?

Also, the reason why "veterans" are leaving is because it happens all the time. It's just that now some people felt like they wanted to announce them leaving and get their dicks sucked on the way out. Then other people saw what was going on and wanted to join in on the fun. I am fairly sure announcing that you're leaving is against the rules. It used to be at least, because the forum used to be flooded by "I am leaving!" and "why I am leaving" threads all the time.

i'm a little confused, if you guys are having problems in real life. I still don't get why you leave the forum. Makes zero sense in my opinion.

I read every reply to this thread before I realized that we were talking about forum veterans and not military veterans.

But, it's a little bit of every reason listed IMO.

Been here awhile. But yeah, it gets pretty blah seeing the same topics that could be resolved by a simple google search.
