Affordable G-Sync Monitor for 1050 Ti

Alright guys, as a quick Google has yielded me no results, I'm asking all the tech wizards* on this forum. What is a good, 21.5"-23" 1080p monitor that supports G-Sync, for around $200? I've got a generic VGA monitor and a 1050 Ti, so there is tons of screen tearing. Especially since the 1050's fps fluctuates quite a bit. 

 

 

*meaning they find deals on things that are just what I wanted, but way cheaper than I found them for, while looking on the same site.

Affordable and G-Sync don't go together. You are better off trying to find a different solution to fix the problem.

Not worth getting since it would cost as much as a much better GPU. 

 

Cheapest Gsync - $370

Cheapest 1070 - $360

Around 300$ (If I remember correctly, it may be 400$)

If screen tearing is a major issue you could sell the 1050 ti and get an rx 460 and a monitor with freesync which would be much more affordable

for the price of the 1050Ti and the 200$ you'd spend on a new monitor you could've god a better video card - a GTX1070 for example

Have you tried enabling fast sync in the Nvidia control panel? It works well reducing screen tearing for me (and did with my old crappy monitor).

But if I get a better GPU, I'll have a higher frame rate, but the same crappy monitor. I do have a small TV I could fix up, but TVs aren't as good as an actual computer monitor.

Sell your 1050Ti for $100~ and buy a $100 1080p monitor. Then buy a 1070 for $370~. You will have a MUCH better experience then buying a $370 Gsync monitor for your 1050ti.

Nope. Is Nvidia Control Panel the same as the Geforce Experience app? Or have I been looking for settings in the wrong app?

No, it's separate from the Geforce Experience. Right click on your desktop and it should be there.

I don't really want to sell my 1050.... it's so cute and tiny! And If I get a G-sync monitor now, It shouldn't break by the time I can upgrade GPU's, right?

The mini 1070 is fine (and is only $360), and is still a much smarter decision than a 1050+Gsync monitor. But yes, a Gsync monitor would technically still work.

Thanks!! Can't believe I didn't think of that... It's the same place as the Intel iGPU settings and the AMD control panel.  Embarrassed again. (Actually, more sheepish than embarrassed. Is that the same thing?)

Turn settings down, untill you keep 60+ fps, and turn V-Sync on. For 99% of all games you will get smooth gameplay. This is pretty much the way to go if you want smooth gameplay without Freesync/G-Sync.

The only way, you won't have stuttering OR Tearing.

 

If you have to turn settings down more than you would like to, you need a stronger GPU. ^^

Affordable and G-Sync in the same sentence... what did I just read? That's not an actual thing  Nvidia would never let us have their precious variable refresh rate for a fair and reasonable price. It's Nvidia we're talking about here, c'mon.

When you have the kind of money for a G-Sync monitor, you're probably so unconcerned about affordability that you're wiping your ass with Quadro P6000s

Even then, you should kind of critically evaluate your setup, much like yesterday's LTT video on DDR speeds - yes, you can get an advantage of sorts by spending this much money (in this case it's ~$200 for just G-sync on top of an equivalent monitor), but realistically, there are definitely several upgrades available, that would give a much more noticeable advantage for this amount of moneys.

 

As people mentioned, selling your 1050Ti and adding $200 will probably get you a 1070, which can turn your ~30FPS G-sync experience into a solid 60FPS experience at higher settings. Alternatively, replacing 1050Ti with an RX480 and a FreeSync monitor will lead to both higher framerates, similar AdaptiveSync experience AND possibly a TN -> IPS upgrade for a change.

 

The only scenario when you might make a worse short-term decision, is when you know you will keep upgrading graphics cards, while staying in the green camp. Then it makes sense to invest in a monitor, which you will hold on to, instead of buying something less feature-complete and thus hampering the possible future gains. Now, whether doing this backwards future-proofing is sensible is up for debate, I personally am not a fan of such strategies.

g sync itself has about a $200 premium.. so you have to add $200 to any monitor!!

its really not worth the premium in my eyes.. i have it.. i could live without it

I tried enabling v-sync like @Cela1 said, and it's already way better. So I think the G-Sync monitor can wait until I have a better setup.

Do you have a fast-sync option there as well as v-sync? Fast-sync is like v-sync but does not limit the fps.

I only saw Vertical Sync. It doesn't seem to limit the fps, as it'll go to 120+ fps in my R/C Flight sim.
