It was supposed to beat the 295X2 (half the price) and with a price tag of 3000$ or over 3500€ around here, i dont think many people had one and those who did were crazy for 4K (which it wasnt even that good at to begin with .-.). I think the original Titan Z failed and maybe they would try to redeem themselves with the Titan Z "2".

Would be one hell of a blow though, especially with the new Titan X Pascal 2017 and the 1080 Ti so close to each other lmao.

AMD made such a big point about Asynchronous Shaders because for years their attitude to GPU design was just "throw more cores at it", which isn't dissimilar to their approach to CPUs. The problem with this is that while this makes their GPUs beasts in computational workloads, it means that in gaming a lot of the GPU is idle and waiting for other tasks to finish. This is why huge GPUs like Hawaii and Fiji lagged behind the theoretically much lower performance 780 Ti and 980 Ti respectively so badly. Asynchronous Shaders allow those idle cores to be working on tasks different to the rest of the GPU -- that is asynchronously. This is great, but if your GPU doesn't have a lot of cores idling at any moment in time Asynchronous Shaders won't do anything for you. This is why, imo, advertising their importance on low end small GPUs like the 460 is absurd, and complaints about the lack of them in Maxwell -- an architecture entirely focused around efficiency and optimisation in lieu of pure performance and brute force -- are misplaced.

Errr, no. While all that is true, that is not what async compute is.

The reason why it matters like you asked in your 1st comment is that

  1. Async compute allows a GPU to process graphics and compute workloads at the same time. Typically a CPU handled the compute workloads. That is inefficient and it limited what we could do in games. One aspect that async compute opens up is better AI. Shader underutilization doesn't have anything to do with this.
  2. Nvidia falsely marketed what their GPUs were capable of doing then later promised a fix when it was found it they were fibbing. That fix never came.

That is a possible use which Asynchronous Shaders can be put to, not a reason for them to exist in the firstplace. Like I said, if all of your GPU cores are maxed out then there aren't any left to do that additional workload, rendering (hehe) the Asynchronous Shaders moot. That is Nvidia's argument. The issue with Maxwell came from the driver trying to use Asynchronous Compute in the scenario of a GPU that neither supported it, or needed it and that caused additional latency.

I would argue that AMD falsely marketed the benefits of Async Compute and, more accurately, the detriment of their competitors not having it. Their argument was true in the vacuum of their own architecture, but they deliberately used ambiguity to misrepresent Nvidia's position. Much like they did with the whole 970 VRAM thing, I might add.

By all means call Intel and Nvidia on their shit, but it does irritate me how much of a blind eye AMD gets shown.

Who ever is in charge of nvidia's marketing honestly needs to be fired at this point.

Terrible 'baity' announcements, awful decisions in product naming and marketing, whoever it is seems to have no idea what they're actually doing or who they're actually marketing to.

Yeah, because their marketing is just terrible. That must be why the company is in such financial dire straits, right?

A shield tablet absolutely not because of the switch. A new shield (handheld) probably not, not sure if they refreshed it for Maxwell and it seems unlikely. But those aren't exactly branded with GeForce. Most likely to do with Nvidia offering faster GDDR5 on the GTX 1060 and 1080 I think. Else, probably improving their GRID service.

Consumer GP100 GPU maybe? That's literally the only thing I can think of... I must say, this is a surprise.

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Do this:

And make sure you do it by hitting the quote button at the bottom left of my post, and not the one inside the editor!

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Titan X pascal, branded titan x because and they quote "didnt want to confuse consumers." only further confusing consumers by naming it exactly the same thing as the previous generation. not even apple does that.

when reviewers requestes titan x(p)s and the new titan xp many were refused stating it was not a gaming card but meant for deep learning and neural networks. They then brand the card a geforce gtx, their "gaming" oriented line up.

They release vague statement adter statement, contradict themselves all over the place, and dare i need bring up the shield fiasco?

Nvidia marketting is either completely incompetent or is completely uncapable of working in one direction as they should.

their marketing doesnt change the products, which is what really drives their sales, but it does serve to confuse everyone and only anger their fanbase. Only a complete diehard fanboy would disagree.

Plot twist, Nvidia's launching a sneaker line.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Pyo.

My vote goes towards either a dual 1080 card (hopefully with an aio water cooler imo), or a new console. I'd rather see the console, since it would be more useful
