I'm sorry...but this video is awful IMO.  Yes, they're advertising an auction, which is ok, as well as a charity, which is awesome.  However, I felt like the whole video was poorly executed.  First, we get the impression that Luke is gonna discuss or even rant about why the red iPhone is such a big deal.  After that, we instead get three minutes of Luke trying to "paint" an iPhone 7 blue using anything ranging from redneck-ish methods to pure stupidity.  Suddenly, dBrand advertisement!  Suddenly, testicular jokes!  Suddenly auction ad!  Suddenly, charity promotion!  Suddenly, MY BRAIN IS MUSH, because I can't figure out what the real point of the video was...

 

Thank God I'm on the LTT forums, because I wouldn't understand the video in the slightest without this community.  Tbh, I think it's awesome that LTT is promoting charities like this.  They should do charity ads more often.  However, I feel like this video was thrown together by a caffeinated 6-year-old due to its sheer lack of transitions and otherwise extremely random organization.  If I was able to follow how the video went from A to B to Z, and then back to G, then I would be much happier with it.

What's the point guys?  Why would people buy this?  At least they need to sign it.  I would only buy it if they signed it, How is this special?  It's just an overpriced iPhone with blue wax on it right now.  Next time they should sign it or something.....

In a world where all smartphones have special cases I really can't see what is the big deal here... but if Apple paid the LTT for the merchandise then all the better, who am I to complain about them funding our favourite tech group.

 

And charity stuff always welcome, why not right?

Because people don't watch things to the end, make assumptions, prove to themselves that their assumptions are always right, and don't like videos where expensive crap that they allegedly can't "afford" are either modified or destroyed.

A roller coaster of emotions from this video, from troll, to techrax, to full video Ad, I didn't know if I wanted to give it a thumbs up or thumbs down. Thumbs up for cancer tho. 

 

Over all Luke linked the blue to cancer since the red is for HIV/AIDS, it was well thought out.

I think the semi-linear logic was like this:

 

-> There is this red iphone

-> everyone's freaking out about it being red, videos about it being red bring millions of views because red

-> however, having a <insert color> iphone was always one dbrand away. Wtf is people watching? 

[non-linear addition: the point of red iphone was charity]

-> let's try to attract views for something more useful, less shallow than the color of a phone

=> go with blue iphone and work on plug to testicular cancer

 

So it's really two lines, 1) the silliness of red iphone frenzy, and 2) the charity fundraiser factor, and their confluence is the idea behind the video. The rest is up to execution and trademark style  

It did seem a bit chaotic at times to me as well. Too many plot-twists in the same video, maybe?

In any case, the make-believe dbrand add was funny, and even funnier the people who rushed to comment after plot-twist 1 without watching till the end. As if the whole point of the video could really be that ad  

 

The downside is I almost didn't watch it because... blue iphone, red iphone? What's interesting about that?

all the hype regarding the RED iphone 7 is hilarious and an absolute joke, they did this with every generation of ipod touch so far and also some other iphone models IIRC. I mean, I could get my ipod with the RED branding and donating profits, but that has never been a hype.

okay if it went up from 76k to 79k that means that I think there are actual legit people on it betting for it and not some phony accounts.(I was so wrong)

on the second note looking through bidder history it looks like there are some people who have it set to auto bid in increments of 100 dollars

and there was a jump up to 50k exact and then the direct next bid is 66,666.66 dollars which does not make sense in the auction world.

FINAL CONCLUSION :

yeah it looks like there was a botted site to jump the bid up since the previous people post 50k all bidded on the same exact item 7 days ago so even though it looks like two people are bidding against each other I am guessing it either a person bumping the price up via multiple accounts or pirated accounts ie credit cards. now looking further down it seems like there are at least 4 people all above 50k that are clearly using botted accounts since they kept up the bid on something from 8 days ago and are doing the same thing with this item.

and also I have counted about 5 accounts whose only bid in 30 days was on this product.

 

plus even all of the retract bids are before it hit 15k so that means that people are aware of the botted accounts boosting it up and want out of it.

 

The summary: a botted system to keep the bids up once someone put down 50K and a clear botted system that has 5 ish users doing auto bids on this product as well as past ones and people who made an new account.
