NVIDIA 1080 Ti Launch Event Countdown

Shadow Bullet

The 1080 Ti sports the new Micron G5X 11GHz VRAM, effectively giving it a bit more than Titan XP bandwidth!

Really, only difference is: 88 ROPS vs 96, 11GB VRAM vs 12, 11GHz VRAM vs 10, and a bit higher clock speeds.

Effectively the same perf for $500 less.

They finally got rid of the DVI port.  Single slot cards maybe?

It won't work with my ROG Swift?!

Got a pic or did I miss a minor detail from Paul's Hardware?

Nevermind, had to re-watch the PW vid again!

Kyle and Jay both show the card and show it doesn't have DVI.

DVI not Displayport.

I guess all it takes is 500 engineering hours over 10 years to successfully monopolize a market.

It takes marketing guys a lot less time and money but well, they run into all kinds of anti-trust laws and shit.

1)He obviously meant watts

2)Your circuit breakers are 20-22 Amps apiece

3)A cray 1 did not have 250 amps going through it

4)Top power is 12v

The amperage going into the card is very different to the amperage through the GPU.

(My circuit breakers are 16A)

But is that something you tell a bunch of folks at a non-press-press-event? He was obviously talking about power req's, no? I don't think any of their 'gamers' care that it's a 200 watt core by the logic 0.8*250=200, that's useless to them.

We are talking about the same person who said 500 hours of total engineer time painstakingly put in over the last 10 years to develop Gameworks DX12.

He does have issues with his units of measurement.

Also saying everything twice....Everything Twice....500 Hours!....That is 500 hours, over the past 10 years....the past 10 years to develop.

is there gonna be AIB 1080Ti's available or only Founders?

also a shame it doesn't have HBM2 memory

Watts = Volts * Amps

So if its running at 1V, and the card is drawing 250 watts, that would be 250 amps.

Converted to standard North America power at 110V that would be ~2.5 amps from the wall connected to your 15 or 20 amp breakers in the load center.

the way Jay was talking it sounds like there will be AIB's but even then the "Founders Premium" is GONE so it's gonna be the "budget" card again like it used to be and if the numbers shown holds up 66C at over 2 Ghz, don't need better cooling then that.

though AIB cards would be a bit nice if one didn't like the looks of the Founders + extra features

2 Ghz sounds like an overclock. and yielding 66c for a Founders is pretty amazing

We went over this, using the .8v figure. Do you really think he expects a bunch of people at the press event to go do the math themselves (using assumed voltages, nonetheless), instead of just giving you the wattage sales figure? By that logic, at 1.2v, it could be a 300 watt card until we get more info.

I don't know man there was enough geeks in the audience probably someone did the math on the fly....and then hear the price, went "Wooooo!" and forgot about it to go try the demos.

the 2 Ghz WAS an overclock, stock clocks are 1.5ish, did you not see that part of the video?

edit: also, figured out why 11GB, they "turned it up to 11", xD

But that is the problem, using amps means you need to do the math, wattage is the same regardless of the voltage. A computer drawing 400 watts is pulling 400 watts from your 1800 watts a typical 15 amp AC breaker provides. In amperage at 12VDC that would be 33 amps which is double the 15 amps of 110VAC making the computer sound more powerful.

Amps sounds bigger and better so it gets used.

EDIT: I'm starting to think I'm arguing the same thing you are arguing for haha, I'm pretty sure I mis-understood the first post. :P

if you pre-order the founders direct from Nvidia starting tomorrow morning it will be, it's only the stores that try to price gouge over the MSRP

Using Google Currency Converter $699US becomes $912AUD + 10% GST = $1003AUD.

Assuming correct figures, taxes etc..

A single RX480 is still an upgrade for me so not something im gonna spend money on, just a pipe dream unless AMD Vega has the same effect as RYZEN on the market
