Depends on what you're gonna use it for and how fast GPU you plan to pair with it. But I paid this extra for my 6700K and got no regrets.

If you need it. so if you do video editing and rendering and stuff. if you just game no.

If you do VR yes it's worth

Depends on what you need it for. If you are only gaming, get the i5, if you are doing content creation, get the i7.

Gaming, 1080p, CS:GO, GMOD, BF1, GTA V, Either a GTX 1060 or 1070 (Not sure yet)

Oh that's not true anymore. There is no i5 that won't bottleneck a GTX 1080 at 1080p. Even a 1070 gets limited by top-end i5's in games like Battlefield 1 at 1080p

Get an i7-6700 (non-k) + H170/B150/H110 board, the cost of the overall platform will be the same as the cost of a 6600K+Z170+CPU cooler for OC'ing and you'll have a faster CPU. It will come in handy in BF1 cause it's very CPU heavy. Especially if you opt for the 1070.

If you get a 1060 go for the i5 if you get a 1070 go for the i7. The i5 will bottleneck a bit in a few games.

This niggy is not rich enough for a 1080 fam xD and a 1080 is really dumb Imo. my 390 can run games and they look at nice as on a 1080. I don't get 100 fps I get 60 but still see no difference xD

The point is that the rule "if you only game you should buy an i5" is not accurate anymore. For highest-end cards you just need an i7.

And the 1080 isn't "really dumb", you know there are higher resolutions than 1080p right? And they're MUCH more graphically demanding.

Yes but why spend 600 on that the now when in a few years I can buy it on ebay for like 300. no use in upgrading when I can do everything I need right now.

Just pointless to buy a flagship card as soon as it comes out if your an average consumer.

Why spend more money when cheaper cards are as good. even get a 980 ti and play on ultra wide if you want.

Everyone should own a vive.

Is the 6700K worth the $80 over the 6600K?

Yes it is. More and more Games benefit from Hyperthreading. BF1 plays a lot more smoothly on an i7, than i5 (Some people upgraded their 4.5 Ghz i5 4690K to an i7 4790K, because even at LOW it had stutter. No stutter anymore with i7.

And tbh, the i5 6600k is completely obsolet now for any Gamer.

Before you buy an i5 6600k + more expensive Z170 board + more expensive CPU Cooler + faster Ram, just get a non-OC System with B150 Board and an i7 6700.

i7 6700 > i5 6600k @ OC. Not for Every game of course, but in the next years, the i7 will further and further away from the i5.

You don't buy for today, or this week. You buy for the next 4-6 Years.

Check DigitalFoundry's Video:

4:10 Minute. i5 2500k @ 4.6 Ghz vs. i7 3770k @ 4.4 Ghz (200 Mhz less, but that counters the generation difference). In Crysis 3, the i7 has much better Frametimes, and can hold the fps much more stable, than the i5. In some szenes, it even beats an i5 skylake at 4.5 Ghz.

Multithread is the Future.

And btw: EVEN WITH A GTX 1060, GO FOR AN I7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People who suggest that, maybe throw their whole computer away in 2 years. But honestly, if you get an i5 + GTX 1060 now.. What in 2-3 years, when you replace your 1060 with an 1160 / 1170? Then your i5 will bottleneck already.

For every CPU you buy today, you have NOT Just to think about the GPU you buy TODAY, but also the next 1-2 GPUs you will buy in 2-3 years, and in 4-5 years.

Back to my Video. Imagine you had a GTX 560 ti 2011, and just an i5 2500k, instead an i7 2600k (beause i5 was enough). And today, you buy a GTX 1060 to upgrade your old system. The i5 2500k would bottleneck it much harder, than an i7 2600k would. Now think about that in 4-5 years.

But lets go Further: Which CPU you chose has NOTHING (!!!!) To do with what GPU you chose. You chose your GPU by it's performance. What Games you want to play, in what resolution, in which settings. And all that, how much fps is your Target. That's it. CPU has NOTHING to do with this question. What matters for CPU is, what Games you will play in the Future, and how much fps the CPU can deliver in what game, in what settings, in what szene (like 64 players on a BF1 map. An i5 is Bottlenecking TODAY even, no matter what GPU you use).

Honestly, the only reason i would recommend an i5 for a Gamer is when he is on a low Budget, and an i7 doesn't fit into the Budget.

As long your Budget is enough, ALWAYS get the i7.

Again: i7 6700k -> i7 6700 -> i5 6600k -> i5 6x00
