Yeah, like I've said, USBC is the future and is much better, but we aren't there yet, not even close. Face facts, USBA is still a widely used standard and USBC adoption is very slow. So a laptop not including any USBA ports is laughable. USBC won't be standard for years sadly, that's just how things work. So until then, have fun with your pile of adapters.

 

And when did I ever say I was okay with Dell excluding standard features? I dislike Dell just as much, so putting words in my mouth only hurts you.

It physically hurt me to read that. People defending and supporting companies which leave out standard features is why said companies get away with it. As a consumer, you're supposed to want more, not bend over and take it in the rear and settle for less. If you wanna argue that basic users don't need these features, that's just fine, but we're talking about a "pro" laptop which costs 2000$, not some cheapo HP or Dell. When you pay thousands for a computer, you should expect standard features, you shouldn't have to pay more for adapters and other devices to achieve them. It's a simple concept.

Well since this is a productivity oriented laptop and is for "pros", a wireless mouse is very likely to be used with the logitech MX master being a favourite with content creators (which has bluetooth but it's not like macbooks have always had best trackpads). 

I don't think a type C to HDMI cable is really that bad as you'll end up carrying around a hdmi to hdmi cable anyway if you were planning on using it with another screen.

Portable drives have removable cables so it's not that hard to get a micro to type C and for flash/thumb drives, if you're a professional then I'd suspect they're carrying a portable drive anyway but if they do use thumb drives then a $20 investment for a 64GB Type C isn't that bad.

You didn't but there's no point bashing apple when other companies do the same thing, there's no point targeting a company as their products don't tickle your tummy (I mean opinions) as they aren't aimed at you. This is like how Motorola removed the headphone jack first but a lot less people bashed them for doing it than apple doing it.

 

The kinda pro's you're talking about would probably want a different type of laptop rather than an ultraportable with multiple sacrifices. This is competing against the likes of the Dell XPS 13/15, razer blade stealth, LG Gram, surface book ect. where their hardware are all similar in terms of power of CPU/GPUs with none of them containing Ethernet ports and some may have HDMI ports but if you're a "pro" then a DisplayPort is much much more important.

Whatever workarounds or crap you're willing to deal with doesn't make it okay to exclude widely used standard features that aren't going anywhere any time soon. Like I said, as a consumer, it's not your job to take it in the rear and deal with it. For 2000$, you should expect basic features.

To be completely honest, for maybe $100 to $250 more than my $350 HP laptop with an A10 9600P. You could get pretty much the same CPU that is in the new 13" MacBook Pro for $450 to $600. Well yeah, of course because it's got an Apple logo on it.

I will grant, Apple does have decent build quality those $450 $600 laptops probably won't be quite as solid as a MacBook or MacBook Pro, but I like to think that's the nature of the build materials. Plastic vs Metal. Metal is generally stronger than plastic.

 

Honestly though, I don't mind plastic.

Awesome they may be but for the money they aren't even close to being worth it.
I'm an audio producer and using OS X is part of my daily life.
As much as I love the usability for logic etc. they are absolutely useless horribly priced products for the average gamer.

You're forgetting some of the biggest parts of the purchasing decision - long term ownership and software. Especially folks in content creation, a Windows PC just can't compare to a MacOS based machine. College students are oddly an excellent example. For kids claiming to be going in for a higher education, they sure know nothing about basic PC maintenance, so the fairly closed MacOS will likely last a lot longer than the typical Windows PC.

That doesn't excuse the fact that audio and certain accessory manufacturers now have to deal with a proprietary connector, creating additional SKUs and facing licensing fees rather than having the original device manufacturers using a standard. This is going to add confusion and increase costs for consumers, it doesn't matter how long Apple has had the connector, it matters that it's there.
